What was the historical basis for the Serbs genociding the Bosnians in the 90s? Shouldn't the Serbs have been more interested in genociding the Croats given the Ustase and all that?

My impression was that the Ottoman occupation of Serbia was fairly hands off all things considered and that most of the janissary business was in Albania and so on.

They got kicked out of Croatia before they could do it there.

Remember that WW2 Croatia included Bosnia, and that Bosnian muslims participated in the whole thing.

When Croatia tried to secede from Yugoslavia, the federal army (mainly serbian) was sent to reconquer it because of the presence of a serbian minority, but soon after the NATO interjected and imposed a ceasefire. Soon after that, 3 months later I think, the Yugoslav Federation decided to let the croatians leave the federation.

When it came to Bosnia-Erzegovina, it became a matter of ethnic identities, as the country was contested between the croats and muslims and the serbian minority. The muslims (the majority) and the croats would declare independence and as a consequence the serbs would too by creating the "republic of the serbian people of Bosnia-Erzegovina". This would cause a civil war in which both factions, the muslims and croats vs the serbs, were fighting for utter control of the region. For the serbian militia, backed by the standing yugoslav federal army, full control of that region could only be obtained by removing the opposing ethnic groups either via extermination or exile/expulsion. The croats did the same when the federal army came to "rescue the serbian minority living in Croatia" so to speak: when Croatia was given full independence from the yugoslav federation, it expelled all the serbs living in there. It was to prevent future uprisings, something that later on the serbians would do in Bosnia-Erzegovina to the croatians and muslims during (not after) the conflict and in a more violent way.

Long story short, it wasn't just blind hate against muslims, it was only the serbian way of annexing territories where serbian minorities were present and to avoid potential revolts the options were expulsion of or genocide against the other faction, the former used by croatians in Croatia and the latter chosen by serbs in Bosnia-Erzegovina.

>Tfw did a maturity thesis on the adriatic sea and the balkan wars were the history-related portion
I'll admit that I was a bit confused about the bosnian croats. Like for a moment I thought the civil war was between muslim croats and serbs, but after reading the text properly I realized it was three ethnicities/cultures but divided in two factions. It got me confused at first, then I realized that serbia isn't all REMOVE KEBAB but rather REMOVE NON-SERBIANS FROM SERBIAN CLAY, at least in the context of the balkan wars. Makes me think that perhaps the serbs hate the croats more than they hate the kosovars.

Also why the stutterpost?

You're welcome, but you may have made it a bit too subtle to trigger someone.

Or perhaps I'm just retarded, it's usually the second option.
