Hi /his/, I was wondering if any of you faggots would be as kind as to give a fellow Jordanian, a walkthrough/link (to an article) about the subject of Arab ethnicity, I would like to know why a huge number of Levantines are white, how many types of arabs there are, and what ethnical group did the Levantines belong to before the islamic conquest 1400 years ago. Extra thanks to anyone who can expand on the division of the Arabic world today.
>inb4 "google it you piece of shit sandnigger"
TL;DR educate me about my ethnical heritage (if there is any) :)

Oh boy another race thread. And this one with a sexy woman as the OP pic.

Already off to a great start with the assumption that "white" is a race.

This should be good :^)

They're caucasians, like most europeans.

I do wish people wouldn't make up more races than necessary

you've got: negroes, caucasians, mongoloids.

if you break them up into further groups, you're just being silly

black people could be broken up into:
African Negro
Khoisan
Melanesian
Negrito
Australoid

but we don't because that's asinine
>>
Ask this on >>>/pol/.
>>
Arabs are caucasian. Arab culture is basically any country where Arabic is the primary spoken language. That's basically it. Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and some parts of Syria are the Levant, and they Arabized during the Abbasid Caliphate when the capital was moved from Mecca to Damascus.

Then you have true Arabs who are any from the Arabian Peninsula as well as some of the Bedouins.

Finally you have North Africans which is a culmination of Berbers in places like Libya and Algeria, and Egypt being a weird amalgamation of different cultures ranging from Pharonic, To Arabic, to Western etc.
>>
>>1345061

Semites are caucasoids.
>>

Indian here,

Last time I went to Dubai I noticed that a lot of Arabs had my skin tone and also kinda looked Indian in terms of features. Is it because we mixed with you or you mixed with us?
>>
>>1345288
Could you expand? What are Arabs?
>>
>>1345294
An Arab is someone who speaks Arabic as their mother tongue.

Whether they're from North Africa, Iraq or Bahrain, they're considered Arabs because Arab is a linguistic group.

>>

Basically, no, everyone who speaks Arabic is not an Arab. Only Bedouins and Arabian Arabs are.
>>
>>1345061
Think of Arab more as a cultural group.

You have Berber and Moorish people in North Africa and Levantines in the Levant, but both areas are considered part of the Arab World because they speak Arabic and follow Arab traditions.

PS: Mia Khalifa isn't arab
>>
>>1345357
So Arabic culture expanded and erased a great deal of other surrounding cultures, but it was an easier transition for Levantines as their languages were semitic, thus closer to Arabic than other conquered areas, which would explain why Turkish and Persian language have survived, is my assumption correct?
>>
>>1345370
She's a Christian Lebanese, she got popular only because of this reason.
>>
>>1345383
>erased

"Absorbed" is the more correct term. And each region usually has something that ties them to the original populus i.e. the levant's dance Dabke can be traced back to Phoenicians and Egyptians have the Zaffa at Weddings which can be traced to Pharonic times.
>>
>>1345394
I'm going to deviate a bit, but I'll tell you something that I find pretty funny, Arabic language hasn't changed a bit since the spread of Islam. If Islam didn't become a thing, today's arabic would be equivalent to European languages from the middle ages. Is it the only instance where language has remained static for almost 1 and a hald millenia? How do languages actually change? I'm talking about the scripture, how are new words added, some letters edited?

No, the Turks formed their own empires/kingdoms Rum and the Seljuk Empire respectively (Rum eventually becoming the Ottoman Empire). Turkish survived and replaced the Greek languages spoken in Anatolia. Modern Turks are mostly Anatolian natives with some Turkic blood.

Persian survived because it was the language of the courts of Central Asia.
>>
>>1345432
First off, yes classical Arabic is still spoken today although in a liturgical sense. The Arabic language has actually changed significantly in that MSA is only used in things like books and news but all countries use "dialects' where some are actually intelligible to one another (Moroccan springs to mind).

And it changes the same way any other language changes, either they borrow the word from another language or something gradually develops based on sub cultures.

I'm pretty sure Mandarin has been codified for quite some time, as far as old languages go.
>>
>>1345061

Arab, as a term, means Arabic-speaking peoples. Arabs only come from Arabia. So Yemenis, Saudis, Omani, Bahraini. but even then, they were just called Arabs, and were tribes who originated from the Peninsula.

The term Across the rest of the middle east, you get a complex mix and remixing and ebb and flow of ethnic groups all across the region. Major groups, like Greeks, Copts, Berbers, Persians, were lumped together, but even those groups were not lumped together. Those groups had their own cultures, and even within those groups, they considered themselves different ethnic groups. Persians are a great example of this. Persia is one medium province in what is considered the Persian Empire.

Ethnic groups, race, ect, are outdated concepts created by European Nationalism in the 1800s. They mean nothing scientifically or objectively, and many of the lines between cultures, language, and identity blur. they're all fluid, not solid lines in the sand.
>>
>>1345433

Try zero Turkic blood. Finnish are more Turkic than Anatolians.

I don't understand Turanists. Besides language, there is nothing else that connects real Turkmen to Anatolians. The cultures are completely different too.

>I do wish people wouldn't make up more races than necessary

The term Arab has way more social meaning than the term Caucasian.

No, actual smart and well read people realize that the list you made is meaningless, a grouping done to lump all historically dominant peoples under the same umbrella as Europeans, who were the most ethnocentric people at the time of the making of these groupings. All science, history, and sociology scholars disregard this concept as outdated and backward.

2) Mongoloid
3) Negroid

1a) Scandinavian
1b) Germanic
1c) Iranic (Irano-Afghan)
1d) Mediterranean
1e) Slavic
1f) Levantine (Syrian, Jordanian, Jewish)
1g) Other (Saudi's, Yemenis, etc...)

White is not a race, but probably due to Hittite/Mitanni/Persian/Greek/Roman admixture.
>what ethnical group did the Levantines belong to before the islamic conquest 1400 years ago
Aramaic.
>>1345201
No breaking them up is silly. Race is a social construct (yes), so we can, and should split them as long as it is useul for understanding human variation.
Non-black people are nested within blacks (it think, close to what you call "African Negro", i.e. Congoid/Niloid), so blacks should be split anyway.
>>
Arab ethnicity spread with Islam. Egyptians and Assyrians, for instance, did not identify as Arabs before then.

>>
>>1348594
No. In fact, those following the Christian Churches in those countries still do not identify as Arabs. Syriac Christians identify as Assyrians, and Egyptian Christians identify as Copts; they never converted to Islam, so they never assumed the mantle of Arab identity, even though they obviously speak Arabic.
>>
>>1348611
Cool, didn't know about that, but if they speak Arabic they are considered Arabs, since the identity is tied linguistically. I have heared that a minority of christian syrians still hold on to the almost extinc assyrian and aramaic languages.
>>
>>1348623
>but if they speak Arabic they are considered Arabs, since the identity is tied linguistically
By that standard, Armenian Indians are English

> I have heared that a minority of christian syrians still hold on to the almost extinc assyrian and aramaic languages.
They use it very often in Liturgy, as the Copts use Coptic very often in Liturgy. If you ask them, "Are you an Arab?" You will a firm "no" in response, and they will state they are "Assyrian" or "Coptic".
>>
>>1348638
*American Indians
>>
>>1348638
>By that standard, Armenian Indians are English

Actually, by that standard American Indians are Germanic. English is a national identity, not a linguistic one. And American Indians, by virtue of speaking a Germanic language as their first language are Germanic.
>>
>>1348654
>And American Indians, by virtue of speaking a Germanic language as their first language are Germanic
I seriously doubt they'd agree.
>>
>>1348638
By your standards only Arabs from the Arabian peninsula are true Arabs. The only difference between christian syrians and muslim ones, is that one group fell under the pressure of muslim leadership while the other didn't. So the only difference is religion and not ethnicity
>>
>>1348675
>So the only difference is religion and not ethnicity
Arabic ethnicity outside Arabia is almost completely derived from religion. I don't mean that all Arabs are Muslims, but the Arab identity is as closely bound up with the religion as the Jewish ethnicity is with Judaism.
>>
>>1348668
So? They're still part of the linguistic identity.

Not really, as demonstrated by the fact that the Orthodox Christians in those countries absolutely do not identify as Arabs and consider the identity a form of imperialism being used as a weapon to destroy their culture and heritage.
>>
>>1348742
a lot of the early Arab Nationalists were Orthodox. Zureiq and George Antonius come to mind. Otherwise the only two christian groups that don't consider themselves arab are the copts and Assyrians, but they aren't Orthodox. All the Christians I've personally met from Lebanon, Syria, or Jordan have always considered themselves arabs.

>Egyptian Christians identify as Copts
Ever seen their heraldry?
It's full on "we identify with everything pre-islamic in this country".

>The cross represents Christianity, the Copts' religion. The blue color stems from the Egyptian sky and water. It also reminds the Copts of their persecution, when some of Muslim rulers forced their ancestors to wear heavy crosses around their necks until their necks became blue.
>The top of the coat of arms is decorated with Coptic crosses intertwined with lotus flowers, representing Egyptian identity. Coptic crosses are made of four arms equal in length, each of which is crossed by a shorter arm (a form of the heraldic "Cross Crosslet"). They are different from the Latin cross that possesses three short arms and a longer arm. The lotus flower, also known as the Egyptian White Water-lily (Nymphaea lotus), is one of ancient Egypt's most highly regarded flowers. It used to represent creation and resurrection, for it disappears under water after sunset, then resurfaces and blooms at dawn. An ancient Egyptian creation myth states that the first thing to have been born from the watery chaos of the beginning of time was a giant lotus flower, which, on the first day of creation, gave birth to the sun.
