1) Darius III got absolutely, categorically BTFO by Alexander. But in his defense he [barely] held the empire together in a very tumultuous time and beat many rebellions down, only to get run down by some Greek fuccboi, who also took his daughter as a wife as if taking his empire wasn't enough. Poor bastard.
2) The Sassanid dynasty took over Persia from the Arsacids
3) IIRC, this is referring to a period where Byzantium and Persia, who always despised one another, were forced to declare a truce because the Huns were attacking the both of them--Byzantinium paid them an annual stipend to essentially piss off

Rome 2 is just Thermopylae Simulator for me. Wherever I go I must have several 20 stacks of top tier hoplites, and these hoplites will not waver under fire and will defeat just about anything that goes near them. It's quite beautiful. Fuck elephants, I've got spears.
>>1354980
Phalanxes are so fucking OP in Rome 2
>had 6 foot companions in my elite 20 stack
>army goes from Iberia to Asia Minor
>never lose a single battle or companion unit
>>1355007
As Sparta early game you can have some serious laughs just declaring war on your western neighbours and holing up in that one coastal city Epirus starts with. The central building has a courtyard wide enough for six or seven units abreast, just fill it with spartan hoplites and watch them run into it. End the battle with no more than a few hundred losses regardless of what they throw your way, and you are impossible to flank. Also it's the capture zone.
>>1353169
>oc
>>1355037
I really hate fighting against the Hellenic factions. They always turtled up in their tiny chokepoint towns with their near immortal phalanxes and hoplites.
I played a game with a buddy of mine. It was a siege battle of me being Rome and him being Macedon on defense. My god it was the most boring and tedious battle ever. Pike phalanxes at every corner and not enough velites to beat it.
