What are people thinking about when they say "reality"?
Notice I'm not exactly asking the definition of reality, but the image in people's minds when they use this word.

Too bad , the definition of reality:
It's a reflexive image of the totality of a person's thoughts. It's a model, a simulation in their minds of everything they've experienced.
What people think of reality is narrowed down to a fairly specific context. It's basically the summation of popular opinion on abstract events. It's everything they feel afraid to question aloud.
The nature of reality doesn't enter in to most people's thinking. They don't try to break it down into smaller dimensions and relate aspects to each other in these terms. The aren't really conscious.
A better answer might be that the image that comes to people's minds when they use this words is void. Nothing. Blankness.
Reality is what I know.

For me I can't help but just imagine a landscape.
Or sometimes some spacey planets.
Reality is just what is physically possible. The sun shines, free association is not, etc.
I see the fabric of my perceived experience being torn apart and the lines that differentiate between the things that make up my reality getting blurred and losing meaning.
Fuck if I know I spend an awful lot of time in psych wards
