Compared to, say, Romans, Carthaginians and Egyptians were noticeably dark.

There's a sliding scale of darkness, and this confusion about whether the Egyptians were black arises from the over-application of the term in some nations, like America, where anyone nonwhite was considered "colored."

That is likely due to the fact that the meme originated on 4chan and most people who use 4chan are taken with the meme. If you were instead posting on sites and social media groups that are Afrocentric you'd say the opposite.

You must remember that whenever Hellinics imagined a Barbarian, they imagined a Scythian, since those were the first people who lived in a different manner from what they did and it was reflected in their language.
