>Caused the king of france and the highest ranking HRE duke to turn back by being a petty ass hole
>Heavily taxed the church
>Split the forces of the remaining crusader army by still being a petty ass hole who refused to attack Jerusalem
>Assassinated the man he sold to cyprus to like a jew
>Most importantly lost

Why do christfags worship richard the lionheart?
>>
Because there is basically none to worship from crusader pov.
They were all complete losers who lost everything that could be lost.

That's the ransom of Visby though. Basically Gotland lost a battle with Denmark in Visby (they have a famous mass grave where the slain were thrown in still wearing their armor), and the cunts have to pay of the Danes for not sacking Visby.

>Caused the king of france and the highest ranking HRE duke to turn back by being a petty ass hole

The French had no intention of going on crusade and the HRE only turned back because their leader died and the army fell apart. Hell, they fought a huge battle at Iconium.

>Split the forces of the remaining crusader army by still being a petty ass hole who refused to attack Jerusalem

More like didn't have the resources to pull Saladin out of it

>Most importantly lost

But he didn't lose. He didn't win, but he won the agreement that opened up Jerusalem to pilgrims. And on a shoestring army as well.

>more thinly veiled Lackland apologism

Okay let's go through this again.

When a Kingdom is put under an interdict, the church stops all of its functions there. There are no burials, baptisms, or marriages, which sucks, but that also ends a lot of the charity, education and other services that the church also provided in the Middle Ages.

Now the interdict lasted for six years, which meant a lot of people (especially babies, because of high infant mortality rates) died without being baptized. John kept England from God during his reign, while Richard fought and managed to let them get closer to Him.

This is the face of a man who is mildly annoyed by what has happend, but has had a long day and just wants to go home to eat porridge and watch Friends re-re-re-re-runs
>>

And the Church of England follows the commands of the Pope instead of that of their king? What a shitty country is that?

>>1328952
Because compare him to the other crusaders and he'll seem like a saint, pretty much what this guy said >>1328959

>Innocent then placed an interdict on England in March 1208, prohibiting clergy from conducting religious services, with the exception of baptisms for the young, and confessions and absolutions for the dying

Meanwhile there would be near zero baptisms in the muslim kingdom of Jerusalem that richard lost single handedly
>>

Richard didn't lose the entirety of the Levant and Pilgrims were still free to visit unarmed, with what he had he got better than he hoped for. John accomplished less with more resources, Richard accomplished more with less, it's that simple.

He was invading from literally across all of Europe you fucking clod. He couldnt afford to lose a single battle or else he was fucked because there was no way to get reinforcements, unlike Saladine who had all of his resources just a few miles away. Considering France was autistic and the HRE died in a river, England did pretty well and, with a militarily successful career, opened up pilgrimages for Christians
