Friendly reminder that the Ottomans and local Arabs referred to it more as "Southern Syria" than Palestine ore-Israel. Syria did not recognize Palestine until 2011 for this reason. They did not see Israel, Palestine, or even Jordan as independent nations, but rather part of Greater Syria

the only reason that the area was called Palestine was because, after the Romans expelled and massacred the Jews (see:Jewish roman wars) the Romans tried to cut all ties between Jews and their land. they decided to change the name of the are from judea to Syria Palaestina. this happened again in 1948 when the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan changed the name of the area know as Judea & samarium to the "West Bank"

For evangelical support see Ezekiel 37, it is a prophecy about hot the rebuilding of Israel will take place in stages most authorities on the subject have stated that this process has started (with Isreal being a country again and what not)
