It gets sweaty, hangs in your face and eyes at the worst moments, the foe can grap it and if you sleep in bad conditions with your squad it surely has a hygenic drawback too.

This stuff is a meme. Whenever someone says no one fought with anything like long hair or a crest on their helmet because the enemy could grab it ,they are talking shit. People fought with crests all the time, and the same with long hair.
