But the Mongols were already having problems setting up actual control over their furthest western extremities, and those problems would probably get worse as they went further. It wasn't like they were planning on actually settling down in Germany or Italy or wherever. Likely, they would have empowered some local lords, levied tribute, and when they started to fall apart internally, been revolted away from, much like how the Russians did in real life.

Mongols could have conquered the world if they didn't have the internal struggles for powers they had.
