Monotheism came out of the desert and it was created by desert people because of their monotonous environment.
Polytheism came out of diverse and rich environments; and even when these people became Christianized, they basically turned it into a Pantheon with Saints and Angels. And in a way even the Trinity is polytheistic by nature.
This is one of the (many) reasons why desert religions are alien to the Nordic Race.

Also, religions are basically like the soul of a race:
Like the semitic God Yawhe is like a metaphor for the soul of the Hebrews: vengeful, jealous, brutal, etc.
Jesus was probably not a Hebrew but was a descendent from Roman soldiers. His struggle was actually a struggle against corruption and greed etc. before the Jew Saul-Paul turned it into something completely else.

actually the Egyptians went monotheistic for a little bit in the 18th dynasty.

There's lots of desert around the fertile land where people lived.. so that must mean something.
There's also lots of sea around jungles of India - that must also mean something.

Why did desert people elsewhere have polytheist traditions, then? And monotheism was invented in Egypt, which is only a "desert country" if you look at it on a map: The Nile Valley is incredibly lush and fertile, and that's where Egyptian civilisation existed.
