I believe things are generally getting better and have been since the agricultural revolution.
It's a two steps forward one step backwards kind of thing. We are stupid, but eventually we do learn from out mistakes. I was thinking the other about how nearly all dictators came to power through some false flag or just exaggerated threat or terror attack, allowing them to take absolute power and hold it. Then i realised that while this still occurs in some parts of the world, in the west at least, we've realised this is the most common route to tyranny, and no longer have any institutions to allow someone to become dictator, it's pretty much impossible in the west now.
So yay us
