One handed axes were pure shit what even was their purpose?
>muh price
no fuck off that's a dumb pseudo historical meme people who know fuck all about history say when they want to sound smart it only applies to early middle ages and only to shitholes.
Meme weapons.

Ever tried to wield a two handed axe and a shield?
What's even the purpose of any weapon
People have preferences, dongmaster
>>1229675
I don't know about a single instance when someone who could afford a sword bought a one handed axe instead (heard about people picking up poleaxe or Dane Axe but those are two handers)
>>1229657
axes were used to cut down trees
its a warrior's weapon, not a soldier's weapon
there isn't an art or style to it really, its just useful and simple.

Round 2 of this thread, huh?
>no fuck off that's a dumb pseudo historical meme
No it isn't. Swords require a lot more material and skill to produce than axes. In places like Norway where the primary source of iron was poor quality, labor-intensive bog iron it made perfect sense that the majority of soldiers would be equipped with weapons that made minimal use of the stuff and concentrated force along a single edge or point. Norsemen privileged Frankish steel swords because they couldn't produce such fine quality weapons until near the end of the high middle ages with the advent of bloomeries and other improved smelting techniques.
Wealthy knights and kings continued to use battle axes as primary weapons and side arms well into the late medieval period.

cheap, or at least cheaper than a sword, can be used to hook shield, slightly better against some types of armor (mostly mail).
also sometimes used in the 16th century and after as a horsemens weapon for cavalry melees
More fun to whack people with than swords
Swords require much more nuance and maintenance and spears could be dealt with more easily. But maybe the medieval plebs that actually used these weapons just weren't exposed to the same knowledge that you are and used a shit weapon for centuries without realizing.

You do realize that you can stab with most axes as well, right? That's what the upper tip of the blade is for.

What's with the "Historical Weapons are Useless" threads.
Yesterday we had a stupid thread about swords and now this?
>>1229657
Matt, is that you trying to sneaky promote your new video by baiting people into posting it?

Here, I'll bite.

Less metal to make and less tiring in battle. Also had more flexibility for use.

Whats this bullshit. An axe simply does more damage, in video game terms.
You will more often incapacitate an enemy with a single axe hit than you would with a single sword/spear hit.
Also you can hook enemy shields away with an axe easier than with a sword or spear.
