Friend, the article you linked even says that Romans themselves did not use AUC dating, but that it was added to texts in the renaissance and confused the issue. It does say what they did use, though, and that's apparently the names of consuls and regnal years.
So don't be a dick if you're just going to say something wrong, that even your source contradicts.
