They were probably the same people.
There was no clear cut definitions of the two. People who farmed also hunted and gathered. Prehistoric communities did everything to put food on the proverbial table.

Around Jutland they were actually communities of fishermen. They coexisted with the farmers for half a millenium before disappearing.
Pretty simple. Hunter-Gatherers hunted and gathered, farmers farmed. The H-G's saw farmers farming and said, "Man I really should gather all those plants this pansy is growing."
If they clashed, it wasn't over societal differences or something, it was just Farmers being weak and easy to take advantage of due to their wealth/food being displayed in the open, so the H-G's knew where to raid to get dank crops
But farmers from middle east contributed around 1/3 of european genome.
That kind of spread couldnt be non-violent, especially as. if I remember well, much more of it was on male side.
