If not for Watergate, would Nixon be considered a great president?

No

Watergate was perfectly fine tbqh
>>
>Nixon staff eavesdropped and were sent to prison for decades
>Nixon impeached
>Hillary Clinton keeps getting away with it

Watergate is pretty minor, all the hate for him is because he is "problematic", and "worse than Hitler" to many Liberals. While Hillary is on the side of the "good guys" and so is immune. Bill managed to rape people in the White House and face no consequences. This is really last days of Rome stuff.

Why did he even eavesdropped ?

>Watergate is pretty minor
why do people keep memeing this?
>>
>>1191199
literally autism

>EVER using a youtube video as a source
>>
>>1191083
No, the NYC media establishment who dictate president popularity loathed him
>>
>>1191083
Afraid not. There's the whole "I committed treason to get into the White House" thing few people care about.

>>1191199
Which was preceded by JFK and LBJ literally sexing up any hot piece of ass that wandered their way.

And Watergate isn't minor, it was the start of the peoples' distrust of American government. The fact that Americans are pretty open with this stuff is an aberration to literally everyone.

Still, when you compare it to how how he torpedoed the Paris Peace Talks in 1965 to fucking get elected, it's relatively minor and totally expected. But ONLY when compared to that event.

because he was super paranoid and suspicious of everyone.
>>
>>1191083
Probably would still be mixed. A lot of what he did has a huge impact on America and the world today, but for every great thing he did there also seems to have been a bad thing.

He established the EPA, allowing us to keep things clean enough that our rivers would stop catching on fire, but he also started the war on drugs, which has caused a lot of social issues.

He opened up relations with China and ended the war in Vietnam, but he also extended the conflict by sabotaging negotiations at the end of the previous administration and expanded the scope of the war by bombing Cambodia.

Personally, I think he was a net good mostly due to his foreign policy, but it's understandable that many people wouldn't like him even without Watergate.
>>
But Anon, anyone with a brain considers him to have been the last great President.
>Opened China
>Ended Vietnam
Those two things alone make him based. His paranoia was his tragic flaw. The next Shakespeare's magnum opus will be about the tragedy of Richard Thrillhouse Nixon.
>>
>>1191793
>Muh liberal conspiracy meme
>Ken Hughes talked to Tom Charles Huston, who said that it happened so it must have
>Literally one person in the Nixon campaign with no documentation to back it up.
>No reason for Vietnamese to enter peace talks, Vietnamese do not corroborate the story.

I mean, he established relations with PRC and withdrew U.S. troops from the mess that was Nam, so he wasn't all that bad. Plus he gave us this great meme.

>If not for

"Great" is specious political crap. History deals with what was done and in what contexts, not in making shithouse post-hoc judgements.

Fuck off to >>>/pol/ if you want men to be great. For /his/ Nixon was just a man. A particularly interesting man.
