Genghis Khan wanted to economically control India and reap benefits from them without going through with the trouble of conquering them; India was surrounded by the Mongols and water.

They indirectly did.
- The climate. Composite bows withered in Indian conditions.
- The Delhi Sultanate were Turkic and well-versed in mounted archery and how to counter it.
- Most importantly, outside of the territories in modern-day Pakistan and northern tips of India, there was no grassland to support horses and ponies. Without those, the Mongols couldn't subjugate the subcontinent. India lacks the pasturage to support cavalry. Even the British had to struggle with this.
However, a descendant of Genghis, Babur DID conquer India so technically the Mongols did through several generations.
