Was Hitler as power hungry as the western documentaries make him out to be? Was he so utterly absorbed within himself that he outright refused the advice and insight his veteran generals offered? Was this Hitler's achilles' heel?

Would love to hear opinions on this, or pointers to books about this.

>Was Hitler as power hungry as the western documentaries make him out to be?

ADOLF HITLER WAS NOT "POWER HUNGRY" TO ANY DEGREE.

>Was he so utterly absorbed within himself that he outright refused the advice and insight his veteran generals offered?

ADOLF HITLER WAS NOT A HUBRISTIC PERSON.

>Would love to hear opinions on this, or pointers to books about this.

OPINIONS, OR BOOKS, REGARDING WHAT?

I'm reading all of your sentences in this voice.

Uncle Adolf was butthurt about WWI and full of imperial fantasies. He wanted to remove slavs and jews and create a new German Empire (third reich)

No. This is a meme started by those same generals to cover up the fact that they were a bunch of losers. Also, the allies were pretty happy to meme it up too, because after the Holocaust the question of "why didn't we just kill Hitler" became awkward.

You can find countless examples of Hitler refusing sound military advice. But this was because the German Armed forces basically had no way to resolve disputes in itself, other than to ask Hitler. So two General would make their appeals to Hitler about their argument.

If Hitler picked the right general to listen to, the one that said something stupid would just never mention that after the war, and the other would just tell the story about how he came up with the good plan.

Hitler listens to the wrong general, and things go tits up, it's Hitler's fault for not listening to his generals.

The other factor is, the German generals were frequently retarded. It's odd how Wehraboos who insist that things would have gone fine if professional military men were making the decisions never looked at the experience of Japan.

The fact is, German Officer training placed a huge emphasis on Operations, but virtually nothing on strategy and grand strategy. On every decision that really mattered, there was no dissent among the German Generals.

War with Poland? All of them wanted that. Some wanted to wait a few years (they didn't realize that was impossible).

War with the Soviet Union? Except for some low-tier logisticians, all the generals were of the opinion that fighting it would be a good idea, and winning it would be easy.

Pissing off the locals in the Soviet Union? Again, no serious objections on strategic grounds.

War with the United States? Take a guess.

OP here

So what motivated this fucking degenerate to make such illogical decisions? Why did he ignore suggestions to act swiftly in situations such as Barbarossa, instead opting to wait for new Tanks to arrive, only to have simultaneously given the Red Army time to stockpile resources, acquire radio technology and wear away luftwaffe defences with constant guerilla attacks and night raids? Why did he berate and threaten his generals? Why did Stauffenberg try to kill Hitler? Why did Hitler demand total loyalty to him alone?

Give me books on Hitler's military presence. I want to know his level of influence and his level of involvement.

Check out 'The Anatomy of Fascism' by Paxton.

It may not be exactly what youre looking for, but I remember there being a significant portion of the book dedicated to looking at Hitler's style of leadership and the role he played in the archetypal fascist state.

>The Third Reich

Did a mental retard write that book?

No, just someone possessing the standard disciplinary view. Griffin shares it.
