How does Japan's rise from the end of the war to right now stack up against other civilizations in history? Because it seems to me to be one of the most incredible civilization rebuilds in history.

Because another nation payed for that rebuilding, look at west germany

That can't be all. We certainly spent enough on Afghanistan and Iraq, and look how that turned out.

Edward W. Deming and his management model which is radically different from the Taylor management model used virtually everywhere else in Western Civ. His model accepts that management cannot expect the employee to work beyond the limits of the system that management itself has created.

It's simple.
>in a modern society, institutions determine how your society turns out
>one of the best run countries on the planet barges in, breaks your shit, and then rebuilds your institutions as copies of their extremely good institutions
>implicit understanding that if you fuck up, either they'll come back, or the Reds will show up
>now functional institutions bring you up to speed with the modern world
Happened for South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore to varying degrees.

>Japan
>stack up against other civilizations in history
>civilization rebuilds
its not a firaxis game

There is little to no unifying identity in Afghanistan or Iraq. There is a very strong sense of civic duty in Japanese culture, probably fostered by the fact that Japan culturally and racially very homogeneous. Not so in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The issue is that Japan had samurai culture for 1000. If you showed disrespect or impolitenesss to a samurai, they were legally allowed to kill you.
Such a society practiced civic duty and politeness.

Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and West Germany succeeded because the local governments cooperated with the U.S. and the people were cooperative with the government. Fake meme countries like Iraq and Afghanistan had none of that.
Japan looted over 100 billion American dollars in terms of art, gold and other rare resources from east Asia, almost none of which has been returned. The USA turned a blind eye to this and allowed them to use the money to jump start the economy after the war.
