It's curious to consider how exactly Jefferson would've suggested the US fight back against other industrialised nations if it didn't industrialise itself.

If he'd gotten his nation of yeoman farmers, how would Americans hold off any foreign invasion just a few decades later?
>>
>>1130231
He was agrarian minded not a Luddite. Every one itt needs to read his works besides the declaration of independence and the rights of man

the Civil war was basically his model vs Hamilton's model

guess who won?
>>
>>1130326
imo that's kind of anachronistic. the country was in a different place by the time the civil war happened
>>
>>1130337
yeah but Hamilton's model fit more in with the direction that America and the world ultimately went.

Jefferson's ideal probably looked well at the time and he was obviously basing his ideals on the history of Rome and Athens, but as industrialization changed society greater than he imagined even his ideals seemed anachronistic.
>>
His view that America should be 100% agrarian
>>
>>1130171
>lol state should be able to unilaterally nullify federal laws
>I don't see how this doctrine could possible go wrong

At least Madison had the decency to admit that nullification was stupid and blatantly unconstitutional.

Imagine if we listened and the US wasn't a statist shit hole and had real democracy

How are a nation of farmers armed with nothing more than tools and the most advanced weaponry available going to defend themselves?

Consider that we have the most advanced military in the world, and still can't beat poorly equipped insurgencies. Now consider what it would be like to deal with a country where they had a culture of militias and fully unfettered arms possession.

He presented the 2nd amendment as a defense against invasion.

The north won because they had 4x the population you idiot, not because of >muh hamilton's model.

>>1130255
don't take what he said in a 21st century context then, he was obviously talking about white citizens

>>1130373
If the federalists/whigs had their way our nation wouldn't reach past the mississippi.
>>
>>1130171
He was wrong about a lot of things, but he also had good ideas as well.

>northern industrial production and financial systems had nothing to do with our victory
>we also apparently had 4 times the population of the south, as opposed to the historically accepted 2 times

Don't get me wrong, you inbred hicks never stood a chance of beating us, but it was just as much a result of the success of Hamilton't protectionist vision as it was us having twice the people. Twice the people means nothing unless you can also scrounge up the money for twice the pay and procurement, and have the raw industrial capability to churn out supplies for all those troops.

>If the federalists/whigs had their way our nation wouldn't reach past the mississippi.

Somebody has clearly never heard of Henry Clay's American System.
>>
>>1131389
Not to mention a sizable minority of northern soldiers were gang pressed Irish FOBs with 0 fighting experience
>>
>>1131395
clay was against annexing texas and the mexican american war.

>we also apparently had 4 times the population of the south, as opposed to the historically accepted 2 times

historically accepted by who? check pic

>you inbred hicks never stood a chance of beating us

this board is for a high level of discourse anon, also my ancestors fought for the union so fuck off.

>but it was just as much a result of the success of Hamilton't protectionist vision as it was us having twice the people.

and what laws did Hamilton put into effect? The north really began to grow after the tariffs/policies put into place during the era of good feeling. Calhoun and Monroe, two southern planters, were instrumental in crafting those polices

The national park service is much more trustworthy than wiki. Hilariously, wiki pretends that all of the people in the border states were pro-Union, when many of them ended up fighting for the confederacy.

Yes, policies very much in line with the program of protective tariffs and a central bank envisioned by Hamilton as a way to grow northern industry. And Calhoun later almost caused civil war in 1828, and was generally considered abhorrently racist even by early 19th century standards, so he can go fuck himself.

that gives the exact same numbers as my pic.
>>
>>1131579
ok i can agree with that. However his policies were always very sectarian and any southern politician would be against them if they had any brains, Calhoun and Monroe were dopes thinking that helping the north would've returned the favor to the south. Manufacturing was inapplicable to the south and a central bank gave unparalleled power to the northeast. Jackson killed the second bank and the north still got along fine.
>>
>>1131583
Wrong, your pic erroneously gives every single border state person to the Union, as opposed to omitting them from the total or counting them separately. Not everyone in border states stayed loyal. For example, the first combat deaths of the war happened when rioters in Baltimore attacked the 4th Massachusetts as they attempted to march through the city to DC.
>>
>>1131669

you're splitting hairs desu. Your argument can easily be countered with the fact that many citizens of confederate states (especially VA, NC, & TN) sided with the Union. Regardless of the numbers my main point still stand that the population inequality had much more to do with the Union's success than their economic policies.
