They used inflatable tanks in WW2 to mislead the enemy
>>
>>1129005
If they're inflatable then how did they stop bullets and shrapnel??
>>
>>1129438
Inflated with very dense air.

But how did they manage to densify the air without the tanks turning into another Hindenburg??
>>
>>1129438
They didn't
They were used as a distraction for airplanes and troops
>>1129472
>Zeppelin
>dense air
>so dense it flies

>They were used as a distraction for airplanes and troops
Doesn't make any sense. You fire ONE bullet against this "tank" and it goes kaboom. Really shitty distraction, m8.
>>
>>1129499
Albert Einstein and all of the other Jewish scientists who fled Germany found a way.
>>

>Zeppelin
>dense air
>so dense it flies
You do realize that apart from being filled with gas, Zeppelins had engines, right?
>>
>>1129505
And the Germans were left without this magical "inflatable tank" technology. Yeah, Right.
>>
>>1129499
>plane flies over territory
>spots enemy force
>"they are at X"
>troop walks all the way over there
>well fuck that was a waste of time

>>1129510
Obviously
but they were filled with light gas not dense air

The gas was not gas in the sense of "gas", but gasoline (fuel) for the engines. Without a large supply of fuel you're never gonna make it across the Atlantic.

>>well fuck that was a waste of time
Why not just shoot this "tank" from a mile away or so? No need to get into point-blank range to shoot that damn thing.

Indeed, those Zeppelin engines were very hungry beasts.
>>
Yes.
>>

First of all you need to walk over there still, Also what anti-tank gun during ww2 fired accurately from a 1 mile distance?

And if you decide to drop bombs on it, You wasted bombs/fuel/time.

When the first gas attacks occurred in WW1, the soldiers used to strap pieces of cloth soaked with urine to their faces because the ammonia found in urine manages to neutralize chlorine.

I think you're confusing war with fps video games.

War doesn't involve running around for 15 minutes per level shooting things with guns until they die or explode.

In war they do this thing called "reconnaissance," where they observe the enemy with airplanes or through telescopes or listening to their movements from long distances away. They see that the enemy has hundreds of tanks and troops and field guns concentrated in one place, so they move their troops and fight elsewhere.

Mongols thought rivers were sacred and killed muslims whenever they caught them washing before they prayed. One time Chagatai who was particularly religious and Ogedei who was chill, caught a muslim washing, Chagatai immediately called for his execution but when he wasnt looking Ogedei threw his coinpurse in the river and told the muslim to get it out. When the muslim got it out, Ogedei claimed it was a gift from the river, Chagatai accepted that and so that muslim got to live and got a purse full of gold.

First off, even according to your wiki link

>he 8.8 cm Flak was powerful enough to penetrate over 84 mm of armor at a range of 2 km,[12] making it an unparalleled anti-tank weapon during the early days of the war, and still formidable against all but the heaviest tanks at the end

Secondly, you won't usually see them from that far away. You want the fake tanks to resemble real tanks, remember? And that means taking advantage of whatever cover.

Thirdly, 88s aren't exactly super-mobile. They're fixed ATGs, if you want to move them from point A to point B, that involves disassembling them, throwing them in a truck or a halftrack, reassembling them somewhere else, hoping you don't get bombed while you're on your vehicle and vulnerable, figuring out the exact range, and then firing.

The cost of that is worth some specially shaped balloons. And it will run higher if you put even token resistance on the path between the 88s and the inflatable tanks. And while they're up to this, their ATGs are pulled out of somewhere else, somewhere you can hopefully take advantage of.

And that's just on a tactical level. You can find other uses operationally. Stick a whole column of them on a road some 20 miles behind the front; close enough that an enemy recon flight can see them, but far enough away that they're hard to reach. Now it looks like you're massing for an armored attack somewhere. You're not, but it looks like that, and you can perhaps trick your enemies into misdeploying.
