first season was actually pretty good and gave alot of interesting perspectives from both skeptic and believers view along with a closing summary. then it went to shit after season 2. Apparently one of its episodes about fema camps was actually banned from tv! make you wonder if its fake then why did they try to cancel the show?

The only reality show on History Channel I've seen recently that's worth a damn is Billion Dollar Wreck.
>>
>>1117381
People don't care about history anymore

Remember when the history channel actually had interesting historical documentaries in the 90s-00s? It was great, learning about Rome and the Maya and the Mongols at a young age

Then somewhere along the line, History channel realized they can make more money producing garbage like Pawn Stars and Ax Men
>>
>>1117411

yes that true. guilty pleasures aside i actually loved watching some of their ayy lmao pyramid documentaries and shows like deadliest catch. and I about history I think its generally very confined such as the case in Rome where stuff about Ceasar and Hannibal has a thousand documentaries already credited to it yet Sulla their predecessor has none!
>>
>>1117389

>The only reality show on History Channel I've seen recently that's worth a damn is Billion Dollar Wreck.

hmm its like another one of those boring gold mining show that looks real promising but evidently is such a waste of time.
>>
>>1117462
>I think its generally very confined such as the case in Rome where stuff about Ceasar and Hannibal has a thousand documentaries already credited to it yet Sulla their predecessor has none!
Very true. If it were a perfect world, we would have great documentaries and books about cincinnatus or Marius, but that just isn't going to happen because they aren't revered throughout history. Seriously, Ceasar is one of the most celebrated figures of all time, so of course he's going to get all the attention

I don't know, I just wish a love of history would catch on
>>
>>1117474
Except this time they've found the ship they're looking for. Yeah, the gold may not even exist, but the salvage operation could shed some light on just what the fuck happened with the RMS Republic.
>>
>>1117499

whos paying for that salvage op? just retrieving the whole ship could cost more then the gold itself. and as you know England may well set claims to their ship.
>>
>>1117493
I mean Cincinnatus is mostly myth, but I'd definitely watch a documentary trying to establish some basic truths about his life
>>
>>1117493

real history itself is forever lost in the sands of time waiting for the day to be rediscovered again and again and again.
>>
>>1117533

>Cincinnatus is mostly myth

generally I found that most myths throughout history are actually based of some well grounded yet unproven facts so just saying its a myth does it no justice.
>>
>>1117523
Guy named Martin Bayerle has been paying out of pocket costs on the ship for more than 2 decades. Also, the I don't believe the Brits will claim rights to the ship.

It's actually a fairly interesting program. I've learned things about an event I had never even heard of, and the theory they've devised about why the ship had so much gold on board is fairly solid, if a bit of a conspiracy theory.
>>

I recently enjoyed The Story of God series they did, but yeah NGC has pretty much become as bad or sometimes worse than History Channel (if I want to watch a show about fucking cops I'll just go on spike and watch fucking cops).

Although for some reason I am somewhat enjoying that Boonies show they've been airing.
>>
>>1117616
So the theory is a combination of three theories to do with the supposed cargo:
>relief money for a 1908 earthquake in Italy
>payroll for the Great White Fleet
>loan to the Imperial Russian government
Bayerle and his salvage team theorized that the ship carried gold coins for all of these payments.

The evidence they cite for this is the fact that US and Russian Navy ships were waiting in a harbor together, suggesting that both were awaiting payment from the Republic when it arrived.

Now when the Republic was hit by the ship SS Florida, another ship nearby contacted the Republic to ask if they required help. The captain of the Republic told them no. Bayerle thinks that he said that because if that ship had helped, whoever owned the ship would have salvage rights to the wreckage, and it's cargo.

Finally, a suspicious salvage company began trying to find the wreckage, but could not reach it because of the technology of the day. Additionally, the official location of the wreckage proved to be false.

Taken together, this points to a cover up of some kind, at least to Bayerle. I've left a few things out I'm sure, but these are some of the most important parts of the theory. You'd have to watch the show to understand further.
>>
>>1117647

thx anon that must be a hell of a jackpot salvage if all the ships passengers were in fact millionaires as claimed by wiki

Personally I see Termites as more "civilized". They build huge structures that are comparable to cities like Hong Kong or New York in human terms. Also the ants such as in this documentary are nomads who pillage and seize the mounds of termites colonies. It's almost like a perpetual Mongol conquest with Ants and Termites.

Ants are the only other animal on earth to have both domesticated crops and lesser beasts besides human beings. Think about that.
Many ants build huge colonies just as impressive as termites but underground. I think it's interesting how the termites go up and ants go down.
Maybe you should learn your facts before spouting off about us like that.
>>
>>1122956
Tbqh I actually enjoyed the show. It was interesting how people prepared differently and for what reason
>I'm building a super bunker to protect my family for the tornado that will destroy the entire country!
So yeah you meets some interesting folk on the show
>>
>>1123066
Termites also grow crops in the form of fungi. The reason why their mounds are that shape is to circulate air, air conditioning, through the hive and help cultivate the fungi and a good portion of the colony is close to or below ground level. Also as far I know there are no species of termites that are nomadic or aggressive such as army or driver ants. Termites in general just seem more docile then ants.

Although I've never heard of ants domesticating other creatures. I know there's one species of ants that enslave ants from another species. Is that what you're referring to?
>>
>>1123097

Honey what are you doing?
Uh just making a moat around the back yard you never know when the going gonna get rough.
>>
>>1123123
Probably referring to these. Humans have cows, ants have aphids.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphid
>>
>>1123123
>Is that what you're referring to?

Not that anon, but he might be talking about this

>Many insects develop symbiotic relationships with other organisms to help defend them in their environment. These relationships are mainly mutualistic. An example of this type of relationship is between aphids and several ant species. The aphids provide honeydew to the ants while the ants will take the aphids into their nests at night to protect them from predators and escort them back to a plant the next morning. This ant species has even been seen collecting the aphid's eggs and placing them in their nest's storage chambers to survive the cold winter months.
>>
>>1117562
>most myths throughout history are actually based of some well grounded yet unproven facts so just saying its a myth does it no justice
Maybe that's true, but it doesn't help you if you are trying to make a documentary. Personally I think the glimmers of ancient life that you can catch in myths are fascinating, but unless you have some historical or scientific (archaeological etc.) evidence for which aspects of a myth are based in reality, how would you know what to include in your documentary? Often the supernatural or fantastical elements of myths refer to actual historical events, persons, or objects that would have been familiar to members of the culture that produced the myth. Without historical context, how could you identify these?
>>
>>1123123
Ants are Termites are both cool. If they wanted to get rid of us by all teaming up they probably could.
