Should President Ford have pardoned Richard Nixon?
If Nixon didn't think he'd be pardoned Ford wouldn't have been president in the first place
Would the country be better off with a former president in prison? I can see arguments either way.

Your non /pol/ question should have dealt with a discussion of why he did, not whether he should have.

Ford's argument is pretty convincing desu. 6 - 7 years of a former presidents on trial would have done more harm than it was worth. By accepting the pardon Nixon admitted he was guilty, so I think overall it was the best outcome

This. It's very touchy waters when the freshly deposed are prosecuted for the criminal methods they used to accrue power. Obviously there were real crimes, but, look at the results in other countries when politicos are tossed in prison.
Written as somebody who would have never pardoned had they been in Ford's shoes.
I personally wouldn't have.
What's the point of accountability mechanisms if you don't use them.
