The version of Orpheus and Eurydice I heard was that he swayed Persephone, who convinced Hades to do it as a favour and the only nice thing he'd ever do for her. And in some retellings Persephone eats the seeds entirely voluntarily to get away from Demeter's overbearing personality, so it's not like the legitimate marriage thing is a modern retcon. Still not great by modern standards obviously, but Hades is still the closest thing you have.
