What do you guys think about Spanish Tercios?

The "Spanish" tercios were not just Spanish men but soldiers from all over Europe- Italians, Walloons, Germans, English, Irish and Scots. It was found that they were crack troops when forced to serve outside the region where they were raised. Otherwise, they would desert and go home.
I read an interesting post yesterday which argued that military reforms which had been credited to Maurice of Nassau and Gustavus Aldophus, the countermarch for example, were actually in practice years earlier by the Spanish.

In fact, military reforms should be credited to Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba aka the Gran Capitan.
He invented the prototype of Los Tercios in Granada War against muslims, then perfected the system in Italy Wars against France
