Why is Mary Tudor known as "Bloody Mary" for ordering the execution of 283 people, when Elizabeth I ordered the execution of 300+ and isn't given the same moniker?
Catholic whore and a Jezebel

Because whiners write history
Because "Bloody Mary" has a nice ring to it
It's much harder to think of something catchy to slander Elizabeth. Elizabeth the murderous? Ol' stabby-pants Liz? Eliza-better not get on her bad side or she'll murder you?
>>1073009
Because Mary did it over a five year reign, while Elizabeth did it over a forty five year reign.
>>1073027
This pretty much. It depends on who you kill.
>>1073027
To be fair that's just not true.
Mary was a fanatical religious bigot determined to impose her faith on a nation who wanted nothing to do with it
>execution of 283 people
another 112 died due to torture while in prison.

It that nation is Ireland it doesn't count.

More importantly, the notion that England wanted nothing to do with Catholicism, and only wanted Protestantism, is ridiculous, triumphalist bullshit.

>ridiculous, triumphalist bullshit.
You cant become King of England unless you denounce Catholics as apostate lies

One of the chief doctrines of Anglicanism is that the King or Queen of England is the highest mortal power in the Church, and that they have explicit God-given authority over all ecclesiastical matters.
Catholics (and most other Protestants) believe that such a notion is heretical as fuck. The king is a layman. A very politically powerful layman, but a layman nonetheless.
Catholics and Orthodox believe that the highest mortal authorities are the chief bishops, who are said to be the intellectual successors to the twelve Apostles themselves. Protestants (or, at least most of them) believe that NO currently living mortal man has ANY ecclesiastical authority, and that God keeps all of the authority for himself (despite the Bible explicitly stating that Christ would give his apostles certain powers of authority)
See where that clashes?

Liz did it in a much longer period of time. You should be comparing the number of executions per year.
>>1073009
Well gee let me think.
Could it be because Mary was queen for five years and Elizabeth was queen for forty-five years?
Mary may have had a lower score but she had a much higher kill ratio.

Fucking this. Most well documented history comes from the losing side.
