Well we don't still couch it in terms of lie algebra but he was completely correct. He even predicted that light and electromagnetism were the same thing by calculating the conditions for a self-propagating EM field and finding that it's velocity had to equal the known value for the speed of light.
Maxwell paved the way for modern electronics... radios, computers, microwaves, cell phones, etc.
