They get poop on all the roads and they hold up traffic but generally they keep to themselves so it is kind of hard to complain.
Keep in mind they aren't one uniform group. Different Amish communities have different standards for what they will or will not tolerate. This allows many Amish to have businesses where they sell things like furniture to "The English" which is their word for anybody who is not Amish.
Well-meaning people but misguided. They rightfully recognized the degeneracy of modern society and decided to cut off entirely from it and do their own thing and completely disregard new technologies. But they fail to realize that certain new technologies and structures in the modern developmental world can be greatly beneficial. Also you can't ever isolate yourself from the world at large, you will always be part of it no matter how much you try, they will eventually be forced to face the reality like everyone else, the world isn't like it used to be. I think they will be gone within 100 years entirely, when they realize the huge advantages of modern technology.

Uhhh, no. This is a pretty common misconception. Amish people use all sorts of modern technology including cell phones, and will avail themselves of modern medicine as well. They simply decide as a community what technology they are going to use so that individuals don't set themselves apart by their worldly goods. They also don't like to be apart of power grids or insurance (such as social security) that would tie them to society at large as that would also make them too attached to this life. They have a more plausible reading of the New Testament than most Christians I'd say.

I don't know about the Amish specifically, but the Hutterites (another communalist, simple-life, anabaptist sect) use technology -- even internet and computers -- but only in a communal sense.
That is, Jedediah doesn't have a computer in his house, but his little anabaptist commune probably has something like a library where computers exist for him to use.
Smart phones, actually, are a major question for these sorts of people today, because they allow kids to have access to internet porn, while a phone is often necessary for daily life as a personal good.

These old-order anabaptist types DO engage in the world, though. Amish construction firms, amish furniture sales, amish tool makers, amish trinket sellers...they're all something you see in amish country. And they buy seed, fertilizer, and farm machinery just like anyone else. Even in the cities, I see old order mennonites and other such beards and bonnets german speakers running around all the time.
The big thing that really sets them apart is that they're *personally* not supposed to own unnecessary tech themselves for their own ends; anabaptists were some of the first "communists", and it really shows.

I agree that they may face extinction, but not because of tech. The rigid communalist lifestyle and their own passive xenophobia against outsiders makes converts to these old order anabaptist sects rather rare.
