Jews for most of their history in Canaan, but according to biblical legend their ancestors originated in Mesopotamia.

Genetic testing seems to reveal that they are closely related to their west Semitic neighbors but also to Turks, Armenians, Kurds, Italians and Greeks, which is not shared as much by their levantine cousins like syrians, lebanese, palestinians. It is normally suggested that this comes from communities of converts in one of these countries, but their Mesopotamian origin is overlooked as an explanation for their genetic affinities with Turks, Kurds, Armenians and Caucasians. Mesopotamian are believed by historians to have originated in vicinity of turkey, the Armenian highlands, and its even been speculated some of them could have migrated from caucasian places like georgia.

Pic slightly unrelated because they're Samaritans, close relatives of jews who don't share the more central asian genetic affinities

first off the claim is that Abraham is from Ur so that would specifically be Sumerians, not general Mesopotamians. we have little reason to believe the Jews and all other Israelites were anything besides Canaanites. There is little evidence to support the biblical account of Genesis. It has at least two things in it that don't fit the supposed time period of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob: the Philistines who didn't settle in Canaan until the end of the bronze age and camels which hadn't been domesticated yet. Also the Hebrew language is very closely related to the language of the Phoenicians, in fact arguably they got their alphabet from the Phoenicians. This doesn't necessarily prove genetic ties but it shows that there is no cultural continuity between Hebrews and their supposed Sumerian origins. They spoke a Canaanite language and worshiped Canaanite gods. When Abraham was visited by God, he didn't go by any name known by Sumerians as a god or even a name with Sumerian origins. God went by the name El Shaddai, which is Western Semitic in origin

they come from the mud and clay of the earth.

Egyptians spoke of nomad tribes pestering the Syrian province with their occasional raids and small acts of thievery, the Habiru
>>
>>1038033
Scholars don't think Habiru and Hebrew are linguistically related. moreover the Habiru weren't described as an ethnic group, closer to general outlaws
>>
>>1038040
then I would safely bet that Hebrews must've been a part of the Habiru community as their lifestyle matches that which was described in the Torah
>>
>>1037947
Very likely they were just a tribal sub-group of canaanites
>>
>>1038045
that's a big jump especially when as I've said there probably isn't a linguistic connection between the two words. the Habiru weren't a community. it was just a general derogatory term used against outlaws

Wasn't there just a paper published, posted all over Redddit just recently, saying that Yiddish was a composite of Slavic and Iranian?

And there was that mizrahi Jew who put out a study a few years ago confirming the Khazar hypothesis, which many angry Jews "debunked" in a critique of his research.

Yiddish is derived from German dumbass

Jews were one of many Near Eastern peoples with a tribal religion. During the Roman period, Jews (along with other provincial peoples) began migrating to Rome and throughout the Empire. Due to their strong religious identity, Jews stayed Jewish even though Gauls, Greeks, and North Africans assimilated after migrating to other parts.

After the Bar Kokhba Revolt, the final unsuccessful revolt against Roman dominance, most Jews were expelled from Judea and began to live in Europe, Iraq, or Egypt. Some eventually move to Yemen, Persia, or India.

Ashkenazi Jews are a Germanic people due to centuries of living in Central Europe, but are descended from approximately 350 Jewish men who married Italian and Gaulish women before the state adoption of Christianity. The children of these pairings moved throughout Europe, and by the fall of the Roman Empire had established sizable settlements in France and along the Rhine.

By the 12th century, most Rhinish Jews had been expelled, causing Ashkenazi Jews and the German language to be spread into eastern Germany, Poland, and eventually western Russia.
>>
>>1038040
The consensus is swinging the other way, due to non-Egyptian sources which describe the Habiru as a homogeneous culture. Some scholars believe that the Habiru were Jewish raiders, and that eventually all Levantine raiders (regardless of ethnicity) became known as Habiru

I keep reading how their DNA has rarely changed since leaving Judea which makes me doubtful because of how European most of them look.
>Genetic testing seems to reveal that they are closely related to their west Semitic neighbors but also to Turks, Armenians, Kurds, Italians and Greeks

Alot of testing claims they have shared Palestinian dna, but it's probably minimal. The physical similarities between Jews, Armenians, and Turks are so much alike. A lot of Ashkenazis resemble Slavs as well, so maybe the Sorb theory is partly correct.
>>
>>1041682
It's confusing. The pure Ashkenazi line is roughly half Southern European and half Middle Eastern, but really all Ashkenazi Jews have substantial German, Polish, or Russian ancestry
>>
>>1037947
>their Mesopotamian origin is overlooked as an explanation for their genetic affinities with Turks, Kurds, Armenians, and Caucasians

You do know that Turckic peoples wern't in that region yet? Also it's a well known fact that jews have been consistently expelled from wherever they've resided.
Jews did, if not often, marry outside of the faith. Though not to a great extent as is shown by their predominantly western semitic genetics.

Also different groups of jews will have different dominant genes. Mizrahi are going to have south semitic genes, sephardi will have iberian and turkish, Ashkenazi will have various Euro genes.

Also Samaritans just believe their Judaism is the real one because it doesn't include anything post-Babylonian exile. Really everything genetically about the jews makes sense if you study history. The only reason people are so interested is because they're the memest race on the planet.

>You do know that Turckic peoples wern't in that region yet?
Maybe he was implying heavy admixture from Khazars; Turkics who lived in the Caucasus.

>I keep reading how their DNA has rarely changed since leaving Judea which makes me doubtful because of how European most of them look.

That's how people from Judea and the levant did originally look, they're browner now because of muslims who came from the arabian peninsula
>>
>>1041859
>You do know that Turckic peoples wern't in that region yet?

Turks means turkish people, who are only turkic by language, not by descent.
>>
>>1043434
Ashkenazi Jews actually have a large admixture with europeans. very little of their mitochondrial DNA is from the levant so at some point Jewish settlers took a lot of european wives. and Arabs didn't migrate to Palestine in large numbers. most of the Palestinians have been there since the stone age but have become culturally Arab. DNA tests have shown that Palestinians are closely related to the Samaritans
>>
>>1043463
>DNA tests have shown that Palestinians are closely related to the Samaritans

then why don't they look anything like samaritans? samaritans look like jews

>and Arabs didn't migrate to Palestine in large numbers. most of the Palestinians have been there since the stone age but have become culturally Arab.

thats gauranteed bullshit, citation needed

>We propose that the Y chromosomes in Palestinian Arabs and Bedouin represent, to a large extent, early lineages derived from the Neolithic inhabitants of the area and additional lineages from more-recent population movements. The early lineages are part of the common chromosome pool shared with Jews (Nebel et al. 2000). According to our working model, the more-recent migrations were mostly from the Arabian Peninsula…

>the more-recent migrations were mostly from the Arabian Peninsula

Remember "arabs" includes christians and muslims. The more recent lineages would be from muslims. If you've met lebanese christians before, for example, you probably know that they can look as white as western europeans, or balkan slavs, or otherwise like mediterranean europeans.
>>
>>1043762
you're missing the point of the article: there is arab admixture with the Palestinian population but mixture from arab migrants is low. Palestinians are not genetically Arabs to a high degree and share common ancestry with Jews
>>
>>1043275

That wasn't meant to be implied at all by the OP (me), the question was whether jews are genetically canaanite in origin (west semitic) or genetically anatolian/armenian/caucasian in origin, via their ancient Mesopotamian roots alleged in the old testament. If the latter is the case it doesn't make armenians arabic/judaic, it means jews are more related to armenians then their semitic neighbhours
>>
>>1043762
forgot to add: you can't write this off as simply the "Arab" Christians being from the Levant and the "Arab" Muslims as being the Muslim migrants since most Arab Palestinians are Muslim. first off you have nothing other than a simple observation to support this and the Arab migrant mixture in the Palestinian population is low according to this, when again most Palestinians are Muslim.
>>
>>1043762
That's because Crusaders and Catholic settlers married into Levantine Christian families

>>
>>1043795

its low, but genes for anything non-white always dominate for pigmentation when mixed with white genes, except in the case of australian aboriginals mixing with whites.

Arabs are still foreign to the levant though, their culture is very different. Levantine cultures were highly literate, and urban, and the coast was originally lush and fertile, israel now being regreened. Arabs are desert nomads
