Even if you blocked it with your shield you'll probably break your arm doing so.

Any thoughts /his/?

With 60 kg core steel
>His favorite weapon was a huge mace, which, according to legend, he wielded effortlessly with a single hand despite it reportedly weighed 60 kilograms (132 lbs).[13] Among his other favorite weapons are a longbow and a large two-handed broadsword apparently weighing more than 50 kilograms (110 lbs), despite the fact that even the largest known swords (used for combat) rarely weigh more than 10 lbs, and ceremonial parade swords weighing more than 15 lbs are exceedingly rare.[14]

There's honestly no way to escape at that point. He has literally every advantage: reach, power, speed, armor, and momentum.

The Zweihaender was one of the heaviest, largest swords ever actually used a battlefield weapon on any scale.

They typically weighed around 2kg. the heaviest just broke past 3.

Pier Gerlofs Donia has a Quasi-legendary sword that is one of the heaviest swords ever discovered on a historical dig. It's generally reckoned that this weapon is purely ceremonial because it's far too heavy to be practical.

It weighed six kilos.

Yeah, but you slowly and calmly do a set of 10 and then put it down again.
You don't carry it around all day, every day for two weeks while on campaign and then spend six hours frantically hacking people to death with it while being shot at by fucking Swabians, all in a scenario where getting tired means letting your guard down and getting impaled by some Swiss guy with a Halberd.

There's also the matter of arm of moment, a 2kg dumbbell on the end of a 1.5m stick is considerably more trouble than a 2kg dumbbell by itself.

Never understood why in the world of GoT (OP's pic) nobody throws flasks with wildfyre to some opponents. Throw that shit unto the Mountain along a torch and run. Why the fuck would you engage him conventionally?

>>
>>1012829
Not really.

Freakish size and strength aside the Mountain is just a man and dies like one. A few dozen spear or pike-men and he's dead.

No need to risk your army with magical napalm.
>>
>>1012837
Have a division entirely made up of pyromancers cutting down essential units of the enemy by throwing glass bottles containing the wildfyre like molotov cocktails but ten times more effective. Like let's be honest, it would have been used if such a thing was discovered in the early medieval times, there's no reason not to.
Also, the smartest character in the series literally saves a population of half a million people and his whole family by using it. Not using such an element is simply fucking stupid because the wide spectrum of potential military uses is gigantic, when the Others came I'd put thousands of barrels along their path and have bowmen igniting the fuck out of the barrels and kill the wretched wights.

OP if none of these work because they are not really having to do with the question of blocking or are too impersonal for your tastes your only chance is to duck or jump back. There really is no way to block a swing that strong and if you managed to youd have broken bones galore. I dont care how packed that battlefield is im still going to try to jump back or duck and step left, anything else and you are dead anyways.

If I have a shield in my left arm, I prop on my shoulder and take the shot in my core. If I'm also wielding a zwei, I go for the cross-guard and try to deflect (don't have to STOP it, just tip it enough to get more flat than blade). If I'm pic related, then there's probably nothing left to do but go with it, do a left handed front roll, and hope I come up outside his reach.

Lol at that armor. He's listed as 7'1" tall. Let's do the math. Assuming he's a monstrous 400lbs like his actor, he has a minimum surface area to cover of 3.5 meters square. That's before any overlap to make that armor actually protect him.

Now that shoulderpad is easily 3/4" thick, but let's aim at the low end of the hip guard that looks to be 1/2" thick. Steel has a density of 8,050 kg/m3. 3.5x0.0125x8050= 350 kgs, before padding, before his shield and sword. And as you saw, he has even thicker armor on many parts of his body, and it must overlap. That's approaching half of a ton.

Know how I defeat that? I turn 360 degrees and moonwalk away, because holy fucking shit that's hillariously unwieldly.

The real actor could only waddle in his armor, and he's a professional weightlifter.

You aren't going to dodge that.
Its coming to fast and in the heat of battle you aren't going to be cognizant of everything going on around you.
I really dislike how people think they can just evade everything, or at least things like this.
Boxers train for years just to be able to evade a very specific type of attack to a very specific place, and these people think they can reasonably evade in much harder situation without being unreasonably skilled.

2kg may seem light but sword technique is fucking quick, if you've ever seen rapier fencing (it's not that far removed) it would be impossible to perform most techniques

>>

This post makes no sense at all...
2kg for a sword isn't "light" it's fairly heavy. Most rapiers goes max at 1,5kg, longswords don't get this heavier too. 2kg is only spadone or montante level.

Then again, of what rapier fencing is not that far removed from ? Why would it be impossible to perform most techniques ? What are those "most techniques" ? What are you talking about by quoting people who disagree with each other...?
>>
Clinch up I guess, try to take it to a dagger fight so he loses the reach and stopping power advantage.

>weight

>removed from what
It's not that far removed from the technique you would use that sword in OP for, the image everyone has of long sword is lotr-style clubbing

>what techniques
Basically anything besides just clubbing them with it would be impossible if it weighed much more than than ~2 lbs

>rapier techniques are sorta like longsword techniques
Except they really aren't, I mean of course they are both swords so there is some common principles at play (measure, tempo, etc), but a two-handed cut & thrust sword is not exactly like a one-handed thrust centric sword... It's a terrible oversimplification to think that longsword are used like rapiers and / or vice versa.

The fact that longsword techniques indeed aren't "lotr-style-clubbing" doesn't make them close to rapier techniques, that is except if you make vast generalizations on sword fighting. I really don't get why you are bringing rapier into this...
