Are humanities/arts degrees worth it?

Seriously, I fucking hate my Engineering degree, and want to change. I'm fairly sure I chose it because during high-school I had this autistic romanticized view of it as if I was gonna become Frank Whittle 2.0 or something.

But I know the job security for arts graduates is unreliable as fuck, but I refuse to do a 5 year degree that I hate and will probably land me a career that will make me an hero myself.

Advice /his/? I've been looking into philosophy majors. Also considering it as way to post-grad law or something. I'm 19 btw.

Finish your engineering degree and in a few decades when you're managing other engineers or owning your own company, you can come back and shitpost about Rome with us

You would have to be retarded to drop engineering for something like arts.
Unless you want to be a hobo ofcourse.
>>
Depends on where you are, OP, and ultimately what your specialisation is and what you want out of your degree

Arts jobs prospects are actually really quite good despite the memes

If money is in your top five motivators, then stick with engineering and learn humanities on the side, maybe try to minor or double major.

If you're comfortable with the prospect of not making a lot of money, try to find a major that is an applied humanities, like journalism, music production, or graphic design.

If you really just don't give a fuck about money in the slightest, feel free to pursue the purest of learning paths. Philosophy, Greek/Latin, Liberal Arts, Music, Art.

I'll be graduating after the summer (have to take 2 free electives and one upper level liberal arts class) with a degree in computer science from a decent private technical university. I dunno if I like it though, do you guys think I should switch to history (my minor) for the career benefits? I don't think switching schools would be a good idea, I could probably just get it here.

Thoughts?

Australia

Have no fucking clue what my specialisation is.

Depends on what state you are in/what university you go to, but engineering jobs in the West are fucking hard to come by because the boom is over

I mean, what are you interested in philosophy wise? How far do you want to take it?

Good post.

It's going to depend on how much you care about money, personal satisfaction, and what society and your peers think about you.

I've been getting into Metaphysics and esotericism, but I find virtually all areas of philosophy fascinating, particularly when related to political theory.

Money isn't that much of an issue (muh free university programs, so it'd end up being about 18k debt for the 3 years), but I'd still like to come out of it with a reliable in-come capacity and be socially mobile (hence why I'm considering it as a path-way to post-grad law)

Stay closer to political theory, get into a good university and do honours (and do really well in honours). This should be enough to get you into a good government grad program

t b h you can work in almost every field of humanities with a STEM degree

Job security is a meme.

Most jobs don't require any specific degree, just a degree.

Study what you enjoy. If worst comes to worst, be an academic.

people will ridicule me for this, but joining local/online seminars and/or book clubs and simply reading and discussing historical/philosophical texts is far more rewarding and free
