Oh shit nigger what are you doing.
People are always talking about historical inaccuracies in movies. What are some of the most historically accurate movies out there? Pic obviously unrelated
>>409404
Tora Tora Tora is pretty accurate.
Which is why its so fucking boring.
>>409430
He's actually got a PhD in History; he knows more than you.
>>409404
There isn't one. Some odious tosser will always complain about the buttons being from the wrong decade or the uniforms being too green or the dirt road being wrong or the crops being wrong or the lighting being too bright.
Pic unrelated...
Maybe, possibly Theirs is the Glory, seeing as most of the actors were real soldiers in the battle it's portraying.
ITT: We talk about morality
1. Are morals relative, absolute or something else? Why?
2. Your religious beliefs?
3. Your political beliefs (conservative/liberal/other)?
3. Why do morals change over time?

Morality is an illusion.

What are some moments of history where /his/ and /x/ coincide? That is, what are some genuine historical moments that verge on being totally inexplicable, at least without recourse to spooky stories?
>>408363
None. No supernatural survives scrutiny.
There are currently unexplained things that are definitely hard to figure out for sure right now like qualia, though.
The Munich Talmud was the only complete Talmud known to exist and was penned in 1342 AD. In 1553, the pope ordered the burning of all Talmuds but a few printed copies of the Talmud escaped that edict and found their way to England as well as other countries.
In the uncensored editions of the Talmud there follows this important passage

If a human lacked qualia, how would their behavior be different from a normal human?
Is Latin worth learning? How enlightened will I be?
That depends. Are you religious, or do you plan on reading a lot of historical texts?
Cause otherwise the only good it'll do you is reading the engravings on old buildings and learning Romance languages.
Unless you're specializing in that area or are attending a medieval university, can't say it is. I'd learn a language that at least a million people can speak.
I've known a biologist who said he found knowing Latin very useful since all those complicated organism names are easier to remember when you actually know what they mean.

Is the bible really meant to be interpreted allegorically?
I mean, it was written around a time when everyone believed in anthropomorphic gods and had fanciful creation myths.
Genesis seems to be similar to the Hebrew's closely related neighbor's creation myths, yet there's no signs it was an allegory to them.
And God sure does act like a typical anthropomorphic deity, leading the Israelites against their enemies, demanding animal sacrifices, appearing before Moses, etc
>>406267
depends
Catholics aren't literalists when it comes to the old testament (a catholic who is against evolution and is a young earth creationist is a catholic who doesnt understand their own faith) while most protestants say that yeah all this stuff totally happened
>>406267
The interpretations changed through out the years. For instance Catholics and Orthodox insist that the world flood is an allegory about the world being baptized despite the fact that the concept of baptism didn't exist when the story was formed.
Most likely the flood was at one point considered literally true since it's written like a documentrary (it devotes more time to explaining the exact scale and size of the ship than any other part). Most Jews do not see it as literal today. I think only Protestants...

The alternative would have been continuing to firebomb Japan, which killed more people and then invading it.
The allied planners expected an invasion of Japan to have so many casualties that we pre-made so many Purple Hearts, that same stock is still being issued today in the Iraq war.
Anyone who says "Japan was ready to surrender, they just wanted to keep their emprah" is forgetting that when the Emperor was about to surrender there was a fucking military coup from the last few fanatics trying...

Who is the best commander in history and why Khaleed ibn al-Walid?

Do eurocentrists think only western commanders are noteworthy?

Tell me how this is in anyway significant? Alexander conquered more land in less time against a superior foe at a younger age.
Been listening to the Hardcore History series for a while now, but I'm running low and have a long road trip in front of me. Anyone have good history podcast recommendations?

If you're looking to learn about a range of topics with some interesting entry-level discussion between older people, the In Our Time podcast has an extensive playlist of podcast about history, philosophy and other subjects.
