He was obviously a sincere Christian. So why did he go to such lengths to protect pedophiles? And why did Pope Ben get the wrap for it, when Ben was the one telling him to plz stahp protecting pedophiles?
>>520563
Because he knew he could get away with it.
>>520564
That doesn't explain it. He was a very religious Christian, so religious he even whipped himself. It's no doubt that no one is perfect, but did he even consider what he was doing to be sinful?
Because he was a pedophile himself.
more about this man? any fun tid bits?

According to Snorri Sturluson, before the battle a man bravely rode up to Harald Hardrada and Tostig and offered Tostig his earldom if he would but turn on Harald Hardrada. When Tostig asked what his brother Harold would be willing to give Harald Hardrada for his trouble, the rider replied that he would be given seven feet of ground as he was taller than other men. Harald Hardrada was impressed with the rider and asked Tostig his name. Tostig replied that the rider was none other than Harold Godwinson
So what's the difference between psychopathy and sociopathy? Is there a difference? Is it possible to 'teach' empathy to a psychopath/sociopath?
>>520481
Interesting thing about those two, they simply don't have the capacity to feel those sentiments.
They can be "taught" in the sense where they will display the behavior, but it would only be a superficial reaction, the apperance of a response is there, but no eternal sensation. Though, sociopaths can form some form of emotional attachment, unlike psychopaths.
Big differences between the two, sociopaths do feel emotions, albeit negative ones mostly, while psychopaths feel nothing whatsoever.

Are sociopaths more volatile because they can feel negative emotions or is it independent?
Jesus Christ or King Arthur, which has more basis in history? Which has more evidence?
>>520082
Both were featured by the pythons in equal ways
From a purely secular perspective, supposing most are fictional, the stories about Christ were written shortly after his life, whereas many of the times of King Arthur were written far later.
>>520082
Jesus, because we have far better records of him as he was living under the more settled area of the roman empire
the figure Arthur on the other hand was a composite of a number of historical kings IIRC, I have a book on it, but damned if I can find it
Why haven't Spain successfully annexed Portugal? Not through lineage like Phillip II but through actual military action.

Anglo-Portuguese alliance.

They tried multiple times
The failed multiple times
Portugal also dealt with the Moors far before the Spanish did

Hey /his/, I have some broad questions regarding the sleeping patterns of people in the past.
1. Did people wake up at sunrise and sleep at sunset or did they sleep a solid 8 hours a day? Did this continue even when days were especially short around Winter?
2. How did people in the past wake up, alarm clocks were not invented. Dogs? Other animals? (Roosters I can imagine would be plausible).
3. Did the invention of artificial light for mass use such as the light-bulb drastically change human sleeping patterns since its creation?
Thanks for reading,...

I want to read up on a particularly gruesome historical event, but i can't recall enough details to find what i am looking for.
here's what i remember, it was an army/mercenaries can't recall, that hadn't been paid, or their pay was delayed
I don't know what country they were from, maybe spanish can't remember, but they went into a German? city, and for several weeks/days raped, burnt, looted and murdered several hundreds of civilians.
i think it was called party or the party of "x" city, but i can't find anything...

Only thing I can think of is the 4th crusade but I doubt its be that
>Ventitans arrange to transport crusaders to the Holy land
>Crusaders can't pay all their fees so agree to intimidate Byzantine merchants during the journey due to the Ventitan merchants being expelled from Constantinople earlier
>on the way end up allying with a Byzantine prince to despise the Emperor, restore his father and they'd support the crusaders and let them travel t the Holyland with their supportComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sack_of_Rome_(1527)
>The army of the Holy Roman Emperor defeated the French army in Italy, but funds were not available to pay the soldiers. The 34,000 Imperial troops mutinied and forced their commander, Charles III, Duke of Bourbon, to lead them towards Rome. The Sack of Rome in 1527 was executed by some 6,000 Spaniards under the Duke, 14,000 Landsknechts under Georg von Frundsberg, some Italian infantry and some cavalry.
Is Richard Dawkins bashing religion basically talking over his own head? I've read theologians who've launched such arguments against their religions that make his best arguments sound like dimwitted brainfarts. It makes me think he deliberately cashes on pseudo-intellectual fedoratheists.

His goal was to reach the masses. He is very smart, and he succeeded in his goal.

He made a lot of money, so yes.
New Atheists are pretty much the fundamentalists of atheism.
Religious belief does not have to do with intelligence, it has to do with much deeper psychological factors.
Who was the smuggest person in history?
The Professor who smirked quite Jewishly
Luther
Any of the new atheists
Betrand Russell
Voltaire is definitely up there
Thomas Paine, definitely smug

Diogenes of Synope, also known as the philosopher that mocked Plato's definition of man (a featherless biped) by plucking out a chicken and making it parade to the cry of "behold Plato's man", lived in a barrel, masturbated in public, and famously told Alexander the Great "move aside, you are blocking out the sun".
He was living the smug lyfe way before frogposters became a thing.
What does /his/ think of this man and his philosophy of non aggression and peaceful parenting?

That's just dumb as hell
Is this a historically accurate fact?
>>>/v/322894924
>Fact is, for most enlisted men, WW1 was fun as fuck. The reason liberals are so hellbent on having it portrayed as a literal killing field is because it was a war that was fought purely for nationalism - every man, fighting for the honour and glory of his respective Empire. That's why they hate it so much.
No, but neither is the hellish 24/7 bombardment eat shit live in shit breathe shit drown in shit & run into machineguns and die all day erryday portrayal.
However it is true that "popular" history and art and media and the like have done a number on WW1. It's quite probably the worst victim in terms of combining the sheer importance and scope of the event - and its awfully twisted and incorrect popular perception.
Any sentence that starts with "The fact is" most likely isn't fact. It's like searching porn which has the tag "REAL INCEST" or "REAL TEENS" you can be sure it is 2 famous pornstarts moaning in their usual voice and 30+ washed up pornstars with pigtails to make them look young.
Wars aren't fun, at least not for the soldiers.

>The concentration of so much fighting in such a small area devastated the land, resulting in miserable conditions for troops on both sides. Rain combined with the constant tearing up of the ground turned the clay of the area to a wasteland of mud full of human remains. Shell craters became filled with a liquid ooze, becoming so slippery that troops who fell into them or took cover in them could drown. Forests were reduced to tangled piles of wood by constant artillery-fire and eventually obliterated.[89]...
