What are the best /his/ related documentaries on youtube?
>>679068
I prefer documentary series. Unless the topic is pretty specialized audio books are generally better.
Ken Burns makes good shit. American Civil War, WW2, The Dust Bowl.
The BBC 'Battlefield' series is great. WW2 and Vietnam.

By far the most objective, non-revisionist documentary of European history spanning from 300AD to 1460AD.

Based on a literal undertanding of the Old Testament / Hebrew Bible / Tanakh shouldn't we worship Lucifer rather than Yahweh?
Satan gave us our love of knowledge and never hurt anyone except based on Yahweh's explicit orders (Book of Job).
Meanwhile Yahweh killed and hurt millions just for fun.
>>>666666
>>679050
Doesn't matter, because Yahweh has a greater capacity for fucking you up. It's about fear of God, more than love. That came later.
>>679066
Are you saying fear is greater than love?
>>679050
On a literal understanding of the OT, the serpent isn't Satan. And if he was, as you point out, he's God's errand boy anyway, so ultimately, his boons are from God.

I've been practecing HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) since I was 11, nine years have past and I'm now a teacher in the group. (Which is the first and only state recognized HEMA instetution). I've used the translations of the manuscripts done by my teacher.
Do you guys have any other translated manuscripts? Since Preferably English, German isn't my strong point.
Also, what do you guys think about HEMA?

Why don't you go live in the black forests of Germany while worshiping the old gods of the forest and attack any unsuspecting Mediterranean scum that dare trespass into the dark sacred realm of Woden?
>>678786
There was a time befroe christianity when people worshiped old gods and goddesses but not anymore but why do they worship a middle eastern god but make him look white? why do people go to meachuurches designed ike theteres and wave their arms and blindly support the corporate elite?
What is the most autistic historical event/period?
>>678534
The third reich.
Probably the Victorian Era.
Middle ages could be justified as non autistic because "I like Knights n shiet" wich are pretty cool.
Victorian Era is just fully fledged autism
>>678536
Agreed. The Third Reich is literally what happens when autists are given unlimited power.
I'm trying to find more information about mandingo fighting in the antebellum South.
Was it like Roman gladiatorial combat? How many people would have participated and watched such a spectacle? Could the mandingos earn their freedom? Were they seen as heroes, much like sports stars are today? Were they seen as attractive to women?
I know that Roman gladiator sweat was sold as a beauty treatment, and that despite a prohibition on gladiator/citizen sexual relations, many rich women would have gladiator lovers, but what would the repercussions have been for...

It never happened outside of exploitation movies.
And a white woman who willingly fucked a black guy would commit social suicide, the black would be killed. Failing that she could cry rape and have him killed to save her status.
>>678527
Back then, her social status would be ruined - rape or no rape.
The idea of "cry rape" is a modern concept concocted by insecure males who need to justify to themselves why rape is more prevalent than they are willing to admit.

What are your justifications for belief in the metaphysical and/or the immaterial?
>>678032
If I don't believe in a higher metaphysical meaning to this universe and actively search for one by whatever means of devotion I choose, I might as well be dead. I see no difference between accepting nihilism and committing suicide.
>>678032
Ideas are non-physical.
Natural laws are ideas manifested in the physical.
It takes a mind to comprehend mind.
>>678114
By the metaphysical and immaterial, I mean that which doesn't originate in the mind
what is the best news site? i asked earlier for one that was unbiased, unopinionated and free of private interest, and was told thats not a thing. so are there any that are at least better than the rest or am i supposed to just keep reading 20 articles for each news story? because thats retarded. is there an aggregator or something that will just give me headlines with links to various articles? are rss feeds still a thing?

When did Christianity disappear from what's today Morocco, Tunisia and Libya?
>>678025
Disappear is such a strong word for a changing demographic that's still around.
>>678025
The "Majority" left it when they wanted to pay less taxes and hold more prestigious positions in an Islamic country.
>>678025
8th-11th centuries. There was still a few left by the time of the Norman invasion of Tunisia, speaking the African-Romance Latin tongue of their forefathers like St Augustine.
Islam is inherently fairly destructive though so most had been forcefully converted or encouraged through crushing jizya taxes by the end of the 8th century.
What's more important to studying and understanding history?
Fact or interpretation?
Empiricism, realism or relativism?
>>677994
Fact.
We can argue all day about who was right or who "wanted the best" for their people, but the only thing we can empirically test is historical fact. Interpretation comes afterwards.
Fact, in my opinion, but my friend flat out told me I was wrong and that history was all about interpretating things
>>678021
>Empirically test a historical fact
That's the one this we can't do at all.

Questions that don't Deserve their Own Thread
A lot of other boards have these and not every question needs a thread.
I'll start:
Where did that nickname Augustulus for Romulus Augustus come from? He went by Romulus Augustus officially.
Was it fought over states rights
>>677930
Don't know the answer to yours, but I'll toss in mine.
Why have Christians historically had so much trouble converting Jews? Almost from day one, you have a lot more success when they went out and preached to the gentiles rather than staying in Iudea itself. And you have the Disputation of Barcelona, which sounds like something out of a Disney movie, but apparently actually happened. You've had Jews living within Christian communities for literally millenia, and while you have converts here...

I'm not an expert on the topic but I'd imagine that since historically Jewish people were taught not to trust gentiles and were somewhat xenophobic, converting them probably wouldn't be easy.
