>Patriotism is an emotional attachment to a nation which an individual recognizes as their homeland. This attachment, also known as national feeling or national pride, can be viewed in terms of different features relating to one's own nation, including ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects.
is being a patriot a virtue? if yes why?
>>899936
It's a virtue from the point of view of the nation. It's not from the point of view of the individual.
The reason is that the patriot puts the nation's interest before its own.
Did you really need to ask this?
>>899943
How it can be different? Nation is made up by the individuals. Is patriotism an objective virtue such as being honest or brave?
>>899949
>Is patriotism an objective virtue such as being honest or brave?
Being honest is most certainly not an objective virtue, there's plenty of situations where deception brings forth better results for everyone involved.
Bravery is such a loosely defined concept that doesn't even bear consideration.
You seem rather naive tbqh.
Do you consider causing small amounts of pain to impose discipline in a child or animal immoral? I'm not talking about beating, but rather about mild hair tugging/ear pulling/hitting a dog on the nose with a newspaper. I think these things are basically negligible in their moral value, but some people seem to believe this is the equivalent to abuse.
>>899933
the fact that you choose to analyse human behaviour through pains and pleasures shows that you care about pains and pleasures more than anything else. In one word you are hedonist.
Now, tell us your justification for embracing hedonism.
>>899933
Hitting dogs on their nose instead of behind is abuse.

Enforcing behavior through introduction pleasant or unpleasant stimulus is pretty well tried.
/his/ it's time for a counterfactual thread. I just finished this dude's book on the battle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zx7M0u76XY
Position: How does history roll forward if Germany wins the Battle of the Marne? If Kluck doesn't create the gap, Paris is captured, and France capitulates?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Battle_of_the_Marne
Bonus points for coming up with a scenario where we get a third Napoleon.
Germany beats the French at Marne by thickening their ranks.
They beat the French and capture Paris in a 2 week siege.
British land and we get trench warfare again, the lines are just further west.
Because Paris is captured, French cave and sue for peace, British don't want to.
Meanwhile Russia is still getting btfo, nothing changes over there. When Russia is put into an unwinnable situation at the end of 1915, those German troops move to the western front.
This surge of new troops causes the British and French to both call it a day.
No side gains any...

If Germany won the at the Marne, then it would probably be curtains for France. However, if you look at what happened and how quickly the Germans were forced to retreat when they lost, the lack of manpower may have slowed down any further advances.
The BEF would have been destroyed. They had only a small presence and this contained all their best men. The British would not have had the reinforcement numbers to make a substantial impact.
If France and Britain sued for peace, Germany would probably want a peace where they gained all the ground they had already...

It's pretty obvious that the Kaiser's empire would have created spaceships shortly afterwards and would've went on to colonize space

Oden was the Viking god/hero; the antient historical father of Sweden.
A curious question is, which tribe/clan does Oden come from.
Prof. Sven Lagerbring of Sweden, believes that Oden was originally the ruler of a clan called Tirkiar (Turks). Professor´s claim is based on his readings on antient carved stone monuments in Sweden and the similarities between Turkish and Swedish languages.

Turkish and Swedish aren't similar at all.

Odin could have been a ruler of a tribe from the Caspian Sea who migrated to Scandinavia during the Migration Period. I don't know much about this but some words such as "Æser" could come from Azerbaijan.

This thread is dedicated to one of the greatest fascist movement in the inter-war period, the Finnish Fascist movement. They were the only Fascist movement to draw support primarily from the peasantry. Let us also remember the failed coup d'etat the brave Finnish warriors who rose up against parliamentary tyranny in 1932, the The Mäntsälä rebellion. Only one patriot committed suicide in the event, but we should mourn for those imprisoned by the Finnish dictatorship of the people. Join me in remembrance. 84 years and one month to the day that Finland renounced its claim...

>Lapua Movement, (1929–32), fascist movement in Finland that threatened the young state’s democratic institutions and for a time dictated the policies of the government. It was named for the parish of Lapua, where a fascist group disrupted a meeting of communists late in 1929. The movement, engendered by the Great Depression and influenced by Italian fascism, espoused anticommunism and hatred of Russia. Through 1930 the movement gained wide popular support, and in 1930–31 it unofficially...

How were borders divided and enforced in ancient societies? I imagine they'd follow rivers, forests, mountains and other natural borders, but how close would settlements be to these borders and how would you know if you were in one nation or another?

This question may sound strange but is there a natural voice you think in? When you read something are you reading in what you consider your voice or does it change? Seeing how we can mimic voices we hear in our thoughts, as well as the fact we are not limited by our vocal cords in our mind ,meaning we can make high pitch voices we can't mimic externally to narrate.
>>898496
you ever hear the roman/Greek voice actors in total war Rome 2? basically that.
>>898496
>but is there a natural voice you think in?
People don;t think in words, but in images and in abstractions. If you consciously narrate what you're thinking, the voice is "you" to the extent that anything is "you", but ofc what you sound like in your own head is not the same as you sound to other people.

HWAET!
A dream came to me
at deep midnight
when humankind kept their beds
– the dream of dreams!
I shall declare it.
It seemed I saw the Tree itself
borne on the air, light wound about it,
– a beam of brightest wood, a beacon clad
in overlapping gold, glancing gems
fair at its foot, and five stones
set in a crux flashed from the crosstree.
Around angels of God
all gazed upon it,
since first fashioning fair.

On this day, Easter Sunday in 1457, Prince Vladimir Tepes III of Wallachia, known as both Vlad Dracula and Vlad the Impaler earned his name and his vengeance.
The Wallachian Boyars sold out his father, Vlad Dracul, to the Ottoman Sultan resulting in Vlad being kept as hostage until installed in his father's place with the intent of being a vassal lord and puppet ruler.
These were invited to a lavish dinner party held by Prince Vlad. All of them, over 500 men, were enslaved and forced to rebuild the fortress overlooking the Arges River. Any who survived, were...

Technically there was no Romania yet. Transylvania was (technically) under Hungarian rule.
Then the Ottos invaded and BTFO Hungary, splitting it into three entities
>Habsburg owned bits of Hungary
>Principality of Transylvania
>Magyar Beylik.
Just making sure I'm following this, since it's the first time I've really heard the history of Vlad the Impaler: his father is sold out to the Ottomans (why?), Vlad Jr is forced to govern under their hand, but instead, he kills them all?
