OVER THE ALPS PERHAPS?
I don't think I've ever seen it say over 60 posters in a single thread

This board is so dead.
I was at a family reunion this weekend, and ended up visiting my Great-Great-Great Grandfathers house in Portugal.
No one lives there, but it's kept in tact for our family members to visit (We have an extremely large family, and at-least 80% of us make six figure plus salaries, so paying to keep this house in tact and visiting it is worth it to them). After digging through stuff, we found a photo none of us had seen before of my great-great-great grandfather, my great-great-great grand mother, and my great-great grandfather.
Everyone was fascinated by the...

Here's my wild guess. It looks like boots. Maybe... He made boots and got an award for fanciest 3-for-2 boot sale campaign?
Let's discuss one of crime's unsolved mysteries.
Who was he?
Why did he do it?
Was he medically proficient?
How did he get away with it?
Why did the murders suddenly stop?
What are some of the best books on him?
>>1425379
His name was Senastien. He was a would be reformer/prophet. He stopped because the Vorlins took him to their planet.
Hasn't he been proven to be a polish immigrant, from genetic data they recovered from a scarf or something he'd supposedly worn.

My apologies for having to insert the Guardian on here. I hate it as much as you do.

Let's suppose that in a post-apocalyptic world there's a war going on between God and Lucifer. Let's ignore morality stuff in all of this. An egoist (That we'll simply call Stirner) can either choose to help God, who will dictate his kingdom granting absolute joy to whoever serves him or Lucifer, who instead will give everyone absolute freedom and anarchy. What would Stirner choose?
i don't think stirner was an idealist so lucifer offering ultimate freedom wouldnt matter much. He'd pick the one that made him happiest or most gain. Id wager he would pick god if his deal was better.
Chaos a shit, Neutral for life

Why look for proofs in hypotheticals?
Lucifer isn't even an entity
Let's have a book recommendation thread, /his/.
I am looking for entry level books on medieval history. I enjoyed pic related. Currently reading Norwich's "The Normans in the South", which I'm also enjoying so far.
I would like something similar for medieval France or Germany. What would you recommend? I also saw a lot of books on the Byzantines at my local bookshop but I have no clue what to pick.
bump
This is a pretty good book about medieval life in England

"A History of the Middle Ages" - Joseph Dahmus
"Inheritance of Rome: Illuminating the Dark Ages 400 - 1000AD" - Chris Hardwick
"Byzantium: The Early Years" - John Julius Norwich
"The Crusades" - Thomas Asbridge
Why do most Revolutions fail?
Letting the masses run wild usually adds some hard to control element to the whole equation.
Is it a 'revolution', if it fails?
>inb4 "the american revolution succeeded"
It wasn't really a revolution, more like an organized uprising.
Because revolutions always breed more revolutions. Remember, it is never the idea but the circumstances. The circumstances that allowed one revolution to thrive allow others as well. Thus, counter revolutions.
How do you think History will remember Moot?

How to into Aristotle? What works in what order? Do I need Plato?
You should read Plato first but it isn't necessary.
Start with On the Soul, then read Nicomachean Ethics.
Read Plato's works on Socrates, then some other Plato to get an idea of his own philosophy, then Aristotle.

Start with the Categories. Its his basic philosophy.
Can we have a thread about symbolism? Specifically the all seeing eye?
I think the Egyptians drew giant eyes at the top of their pyramids to give the impression that they are being looked down on by their gods while the sides of the pyramid represent the field of vision of the eye.
I don't know how this symbol made its way into Judaism and found itself on the US currency and what its ultimate meaning is.
Also, please don't shill and/or derail this thread.

>I think...
...and yet you know nothing
think about that
>>1424284
>the Egyptians drew giant eyes at the top of their pyramids
No they didn't. It's not an Egyptian symbol.

Does euphoria/religion hating have any historical precedent? Were there ever atheists who tipped super hard in history? Voltaire excluded.

The entire enlightenment period.
Charvaka atheists were probably the closest thing
The Reformation.
Was there a more Alpha male in history?

NO he was a beta cuck. Go back to r9k you fucking faggot. Better yet commit fucking suicide.
Maybe this isn't the right board for this, but this has been a question I can't get answered. So from what I understand; Human ancestors were primarily nomadic herbivores. The Ice Age came and forced them to adapt, giving them intelligence. Then the Ice Age ended and they started farming and so on. My question is; Why do we think that life on other planets would have required complex thought in the first place? It seems to work fine for all of the other animals so why do we think something as rare as us pops up all around?
It's not impossible to become intelligent obviously, but the odds seem too slim to ever see intelligent life.
This seems like a much more plausible apex predator generally
>>1424116
"Intelligence" itself, could be an evolutionary dead end.
So how did you get into history, /his/?
Where/when did you start?
>School teaches what felt like a weird and biased version of NI Troubles
>Start reading about it myself
>Read a few books and figure out which papers were and weren't biased too much
>Learn about The Troubles
>Learn about Ulster's history
>Then research Ireland's history
>Then...

As a small kid I loved pictured encyclopedias, they were so bloody cool, I admit I loved them originally for pictures but by age 10 I had read 4-5 encyclopedias full and full.
Amazingly I still remember so much from those first books I read and it set a big hunger for knowledge in me.

When I was a small child I thought dinosaurs were cool and I thought dinosaurs were history. Turns out they aren't but I still fucking loved it, it helped that my school history teacher was awesome, he was one of those guys who manage to have a perfect balance between informative and interesting with a lot of flavor trivia. Plus I've always thought learning about the past and how we all ended up in this situation is pretty damn important.
Who built the megalithic structures in the pacific? On Malden island, which has no trees, no fresh water, and no natives upon European arrival, there are stone temples and basalt roads that run straight into the ocean. So who built them? I find this subject really interesting, pic is of Nan Madol ruins on Pohnpei, the 'pacifc venice'.
The Polynesians
>>1423861
I also find that shit fascinating, OP. Have any good book recommendations for these that discuss the archaeology?
Also, please post any further photos/info you have.

Polynesian settlers. They had sunk wells, which have since become dry/brackish, so it seems there had been a fresh water aquifer.
