Redpill me on Korean history. How did they manage to be independent for so long and not get raped like the Vietnamese and other tributary nations? It's geographically in the worst possible position as they are right between Asian greatest powers: China and Japan. How did they survive and preserve their culture and language for that long instead of being raped and assimilated like the other cultures and civilizations surrounding Han?
>>1058414
How did Korea get 'raped' less than Vietnam? They were both tributary nations to China and both managed to maintain their culture
>le redpill me
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Korea was conquered and attacked *repeatedly* by various rulers of China for centuries before being annexed by Japan for a few decades years later.

What I meant to say was, was there ever nation that didn't get completely wiped out after contact with the Romans?
I think Parthia/Persia was one of them.

What were the main factors which facilitated the spread of Protestantism during the reformation, and why didn't it convert all Catholic nations?
>>1058248
I think the printing press had something to do with it. When the laity had access to the Bible, there was some outrage at the priests and they formed their own interpretations.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

nobles being greedy and turning to protestantism and as always the people just follow what their leaders believe in.

This.

Who were the greatest warriors of the middle ages?
IMO it's the vikings, they adventured over such a large area, raiding, traiding, and found polities such as the Danelaw, Duchy of Normandy, and Kievan Rus' that no one else comes close.
In the 11th century there were three courts outside Scandinavia recruiting vikings in large numbers, England, Kievan Rus', and Byzantium. You can cherrypick battles they lost but the fact is if they weren't great warriors they wouldn't have been such prized mercenaries.
>>1058209
>Who were the greatest warriors of the middle ages?
The mongols
- Normans. They were land-hungry and adventurous as fuck in the Mediterranean and British Isles
- Mongols, nuff said
- Spanish Christian kingdoms. They were fully militarized and constantly waged war against the Moors, with each other, and even worked as mercenaries for the Muslims.
- Balkans in general. Bulgarians beat Byzantines and Latin Crusaders. Hungarians stomped plenty of ass. Wallachians, Transylvanians, and Moldovians repelled against the Mongols and Ottoman Turks plenty of times. Serbs and Croats were okay too.
>>1058209
>a bunch of raiders
>avoided pitched battles
>didn't conquer much, and what they conquered wasnt for long
>their greatest army ever fielded was defeated soundly by the king of a small Saxon kingdom
>gained their largest state by invitation, not conquest (Kiev)
>Christianized with no crusades or wars, just a little suppression...

What happened to all the Jews that had fought for the Germans in ww1 when the Nazis took power?
Did the Nazis make any
exception for them or just treat them as they did with most other Jews?

Jews, um, aren't really known for picking up weapons and fighting for other people....
Erhard Milch, and some others.

Can we have a serious discussion about the Finno-Korean Hyper War?
I know many people are uneducated on the topic ever since the destruction of the Library of Alexandria, but I really believe we should make studying of the Finno-Korean Hyper War more prevalent in today's culture. We must never let something like this happen again, /his/.
So to begin the discussion: who do you think was the real belligerent? Both Hwan and the Proto-Finnic Empire claimed to be defensive, but clearly the war was sparked by one of them - and if not, whom caused the war?
this was never funny
>>1057973
Indeed, it was tragic
>>1057973
It's no joke. It was tragic.
Have we had a Eugenics thread?
I have a few questions about it
>have we as humans stopped evolving since survival of the fittest doesn't affect us as much if at all?
>are eugenics a viable option for keeping a strong human kind?
>what traits would we even look for if we went through with it?
Please keep the /pol/ to a minimum
Athleticism like they do for race horses and Olympic villages
>>1057832
>have we as humans stopped evolving since survival of the fittest doesn't affect us as much if at all?
No. Technology rules human development now and it's no longer about who's 'stronger' or 'faster', physically.
>are eugenics a viable option for keeping a strong human kind?
Yes. We get rid of undesirable traits such as diseases and defects and we can strive for maximum bodily development such as tallness, resistence...

Can we have a thread about the world's oldest profession in history around the world /his/?
I'll start with Mesoamerica. Aztec prostitutes in the Precolmbian period were known as ahuianime (pl.)or ahuiani (s.), which meant pleasure women. In some recorded dialogues between native women, this term is used as an insult, comparing it to having an itchy butt, and being a flabby old women.
Despite this they were tolerated as they were said to accompany warriors who went off on campaigns to war. Often sleeping beside them as companions, cooking and taking care of...

The ahuianime were said to also be sorcerers and something men cautioned their boys about. They use sorcery to seduce boys, and had knowledge of potion drinks they gave to youths, or offered them hallucinogenic mushrooms. One of their potions was made of several seashells, a particular snake and some other ingredients, made into a soupy drink. This was supposedly to allow a man to cum three or four or more times. This was considered dangerous though as Aztecs believed semen was finite and if a boy wasted too much in his youth he'd be useless for his wife in the future in...

As for when they got old? Well they could end up as old slaves working in a house of some lord doing domestic duties, others could have gotten married to warrior or nobleman.
How to identify them in Aztec society:
>They wore a yellowish ointment on their skin, giving their skin color a yellowish color like the simpsons.
>Painted necks, torso and legs (torso and legs wouldn't be visible in public)
>Red painted...

Can we talk about the history of food and it's role in cultures. Also how traditional cuisine has changed throughout history (ie Spanish food was influenced by the Islamic Empire as well as traditional South and Central American food)
>inb4 not /his/ yes it is. It's the history of food
pic barely related
I'm interested, but have nothing to contribute. So have a bump
OP here with some info to get the conversation going.
When the Umayyad Caliphate reached Spain, they brought their spices and other . This helped lead to Spain's unique cuisine compared to the rest of Europe. When Spanish colonists went to the Americas they brought their food with them, where it was combined with traditional cuisine there. The Spaniard were responsible to introducing the Natives to many kinds of meat.
Another example is Al Pastor meat in Mexico. This is actually something that is not Mexican despite being one of the most popular Mexican foods....

U.S./Western Allied casualties probably in the 3/4-1 million dead, with about 4 times as many wounded. Japanese casualties would probably run into the tens of millions.
This is assuming a Japanese fight to the death. Given the infrastructure damage already inflicted by the conventional bombing, Japan's railroad and canal system was in tatters, and their own government was predicting mass starvation before the end of 1945. That...

What was the average, everyday, Southern man in the CSA fighting for during the Civil War? I'm aware that most of them didn't own slaves, I would just like to know their psychology going into the war. Was it just pure patriotism?
>>1057620
very, very bad post, my friend.
Because their country was going to war, simple as that. People had much stronger ties to their states than the federal government back in the day.

What's the difference between a castle and a fort?
>>1057545
Castles are heavily fortified residences, forts are purely military structures
>>1057545
Fort is largely military and purely military in purpose.
Castle hovers between some lord's plush mansion doubling as a military fortification.
Why do so many people find religion when in prison? I wouldn't have thought criminal types were the sort to get churchy.
it's never too late to find the light, anon
>lowest point in their lives
>facing isolation from everyone they knew
>feel guilty about letting their life get to that point, maybe even about their crimes too
>desperately seek meaning and acceptance
Makes sense to me.

This basically. It is not hard to imagine or understand.
