why did china invade tibet
>>1102579
Because they're barbarians?
Because it was there.
>why did a country decide to restore order in one of its territories?
Why where Varangians especially the ones who became the Byzantine Guards and ruled over Kiev Rus so overpowered in their dominance over slav lands. Also how did they compare with other explanding peoples at the time? Seeing as how other Vikings always mainly went west, these Vikings always went East but rather than raid they settled why?
>>1102060
They were called varangians in the east and vikings in the west but they were the same guys, anon.
>>1102063
I know this. I was questioning the motives. Why raid in the west and settle in the east. I was also trying to discuss why Keiv Rus was so powerful.
>>1102060
>who became the Byzantine Guards and ruled over Kiev Rus so overpowered in their dominance over slav lands
Because the slavs were divided and tribal. They didn't have a militant hierarchical society like the germanics and other, more civilized civilizations did. They were pretty much hippies. According to legend the east slavs invited the Rus' to rule them.
>Also how did they compare with other explanding peoples at the time

If god wanted poland to exist, he wouldn't have put it between Germany and Russia
Poland is the Christ of Nations, born to suffer

I really want Galicia to be an independent country. Historical duchies are so much more aesthetic than autistic meme modern nation-states. German was a mistake too.

What was the Middle East like before the Ottomans? Did the Ottomans bring stability? In your opinion, were the Arabs better off not revolting against the empire?
How the hell didn't they conquer Morocco

Why did the US intervene in Vietnam?
To what extent did domestic pressures influence the decision to intervene and later to withdraw?

>Why did the US intervene in Vietnam?
Protect the rubber industry and remove communist influence.
>To what extent did domestic pressures influence the decision to intervene and later to withdraw?
A good portion of it.

All I know is that they got their asses whooped and Americans will give themselves a brain hernia doing mental gymnastics to deny it.

Is /his/ aware that in this moment right now somewhere in Europe there is a cultural championship of 21st century dudes playing medieval knights with actual steel armor and weapons?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqE-FXzx3Lo
"Battle of the Nations" is a championship which gathers Historical Medieval Battle (HMB) fans from everywhere. The world of Middle Ages still fascinates thousands of people, who come to "Battle of the Nations" each year seeking the spirit of medieval, clashing steel and group battles. All this awakens the memory of previous...

What if the Confederate Army successfully rolled into Washington DC, how would it change the war?
>>1101648
When?

>Successfully rolling into DC
You make it sound so easy. DC was essentially a quasi police state at the time with curfews and troops fucking everywhere.
Depends on context.
Did they get in after highly unlikely continuous routes of Union armies, or a mass defection?
Then maybe they can win.
Seems more likely that it'd leave them on over stretched supply lines in most cases. The Union wouldn't have surrendered, and being stuck in a hostile city that you can't give up because of "muh symbolism," can often become a Pyrrhic victory.
I feel like life is at least 90% some sort of suffering. Why go on? What keeps you guys going? If I love for a goal it can just as easily fail or I can become disinterested and I'm back at square one. Even if I reach my goal I then have to find a new one and will be in an endless loop of want. Should I become more stoic? Apathy? Why isn't endless sleep preferable?
Also I know pic related isn't the full quote
Not this shit again, seriously.
>muh lack of meaning
>muh "life goals"
>muh suffering

What are some ace /his/ recommended documentaries?
I'm interesting subjects like ancient Europe (Greeks, Early Roman Antiquity, Scandinavian/Germanic culture/religion, Mesopotamia, ancient China, early century Empires (S.P.Q.R., Byzantine Empire, Ottoman Empire, Mongolian Empire), language etymology, religion, science and mathematics breakthroughs/anomalies...
I'm on Netflix looking for actual informative documentaries rn, they're actually pretty hard to find. It's all "killer legends" and "Atari: game over" and shit like that

How realistic is this compared to medieval combat?
You must be at least this American to compete.
>>1101033
Not very. It plays out more like a bar room brawl between two drunk gangs kicking and punching each other chaotically then a clash between two trained groups of fighters using deadly weapons to kill or incapacitate each other.
>>1101033
medieval combat in armor was a lot of stabbing at weak points
If someone would go into short distance as careless as these guys doing LARP wrestling, they'd have the tip of a pike or sword in an uncomfortable spot
