So, as I understand it, Japan's plan, such as it was, against the U.S. in WW2 was basically to beat them up for about 6 months that they predicted they'd have the advantage, expand as much as they could, and try to bargain to a peace with honor based on the assumption that America would be unwilling to take the kind of losses that would be needed to dig them out of their chain of island fortresses and drive to Japan.

You wouldn't need u-boats, or Japanese shit subs. You're sending convoys out into the Sea of Japan, within land based air range of a zillion Japanese bases.
You could have a dozen cruisers hanging off around Vladivostok, which would be way more effective than submersibles, and not affect the carrier based main fleet actions much. And if the Americans start escorting these convoys, you have almost unlimited land-based airpower that can join in.

Serbia tolerated their actions just like Pakistan tolerates Taliban activity. No European great power would have tolerated terrorist activities in their periphery and having been humiliated like this they had to do something. Whether they could have handled things more diplomatically is a different issue, but their claims were essentially in the right.

I read a synopsis of the fantasy "A Brother's Price" where humanity birth rates of male to female favors females 9:10 times making males a rarity. In the book, men take on the passive feminine role women have in real society as bartering chips in marriages who have to maintain their purity before marriage. I doubt it. If you look at history, there were lots of cases were a relatively small minority group conquered a much larger majority population. While that isn't gendered, it still goes against the idea that all you need is a majority to dominate. Many Central Asian groups that came to dominate China fall into this category, such as Xianbei, Xiongnu, Mongols and Jurchen/Manchu.
