Are there any good arguments against transhumanism?
Is there a good argument for it? It's a meme.
>start talking about politics or philosophy with somebody
>whenever they say anything it's about post-scarcity, automation, self driving cars, transhumanism or some other sci-fi bullshit
>>1113855
>eliminate ageing
Also, implying that plebs won't simply kill you if anything approaching the optimistic fantasies of transhumanists becomes a possibility for a select few only.

Why is it that India has come so much closer to complete unification than Europe? From my understanding the Mauryan empire included every part of the subcontinent other than the southern tip. The closest Europe came to that was probably either Rome, which while large couldn't reasonably be considered the entire continent, or Napoleon's empire, which also was not quite large enough to compare. Why is this the case though? Both regions are within the same size range and although I'm biased towards seeing differences between European cultures it still seems that...

Europe is convoluted as fuck geographically.
Also Roman communication systems. Since the kingdoms that exist a while after the fall of Rome still had the same Church and the same roads that united the Roman Empire, if you invaded someone then all the kings in Europe would have heard about it within a month. And then the whole of the region would be on your shit.
India is kind of dominated by the Ganges River basin. Europe doesn't really have a primary river basin like India, China, Egypt, or Mesopotamia have.

Geography. The answer to questions like this is usually geography
Fuck you guys.

They were unstoppable period. It was only fighting among themselves that spared the rest of the world.

Too bad this is as close as we will ever get to seeing a Mongol ambush.
It's still pretty impressive, but they were way more skilled on horseback.
As Dan Carlin said, "imagine an army full of trick riders."
>>1153358
They barely won in Hungary which makes pool tables look rocky and craggy, never mind the rest of Europe. And don't forget they weren't really great at sieges, especially when it came to Western European fortifications. They also got BTFO by Serbian, Bulgarians and Poles the 2nd time around.
Are there any decent books that argue for monarchy that won't make me cringe? Apart from Leviathan?

Were they any french longbowmen ? It just seems weird that Europe never tried to copy the English Archery system if it was so efficient.
>>1152336
The longbow is a meme weapon who's importance is exaggerated by the English national mythology.
>>1152336
The French began to employ archers in the later stages of the Hundred Years War but they were not that useful and were coming in at the same time as gunpowder weapons were starting to take over so were quickly overshadowed.
Other peoples like Burgundy just hired English mercenaries and saved themselves the trouble.
>>1152336
there were bowmen, but the english at one point made it mandatory for men to train with the bow...
Why was Revolutionary-Napoleonic warfare so idiotic? Standing rank and file to get slaughtered by inaccurate musket fire in bright colors makes no sense.
The development between the Napoleonic Wars and The Great War is something to behold, however.
>>1152125
Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
What did the soldiers eat?
>>1152265
Napoleon promote the inventions if canned food as well as margarine.
Other armies: bread bacon crauts and pork fat
Were the scientific advancements of the Islamic Golden Age basically just them taking a bunch of developed concepts from other places, polishing them a bit, and then giving them an Arabic name?
all developments were stolen by the white man from the black kangz of ancient egypt
More like they captured Baghdad and wealthy Mediterranan cities and scientists from these places accomplished a few things.
>>1151978
Not even "polishing". The scientific accomplishments credited to the "Golden Age" were mostly made by non-Muslims in conquered areas. As they died and Islam took over the sphere of life, science gradually died down.
Oh shit

Is not to supress your emotions but to live calmly and controlling yourself. To enjoy what makes you happy without relying on it and to not pay attention to what makes you sad. I think it's pretty dope.

I heard christianism took a lot from estoicism, so I guess there are some similarities.

How true is the Great Man Theory?
>The Great Man theory is a 19th-century idea according to which history can be largely explained by the impact of "great men", or heroes; highly influential individuals who, due to either their personal charisma, intelligence, wisdom, or political skill utilized their power in a way that had a decisive historical impact.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Man_theory
It seems to have been the case throughout history and yet these days it's gone, no one man in the current world...

Sounds like a method to oversimplify History by explaining nearly every event occuring because of famous historical figures.
Of course the most important wars which shaped current countries were largely due to leaders, because you can't have a war with durable consequences without a leader. However, History is made more of a succession of people inspiring other people and relying over the majority of the population to see their goals reached (even in dictatorships you can't do shit without a good part...

Any theory that explains history by saying that history is caused by a single factor is always incomplete. There were some cases where individuals shaped the course of history, but those weren't the only major events in history
People do stuff and then become famous later. Seems a bit backwards.
Who is the coolest Bolshevik
>pic related, it's this guy.
Organizes an awesome bank robbery.
Writes two dope as fuck books
Helps forms the Bolsheviks with Lenin
Fights in World War One
But best of all, he died trying to make himself immortal (well gain eternal youth) and some sources claim that his baldness and eyesight slowly got better and fellow Bolsheviks said he looked a decade younger.
But y'know, doing blood transfusions to make yourself immortal doesn't work that well when the other person has malaria.
But...
