Why does Switzerland get overlooked by the invasions of WWI and WWII?
Don't they have banks filled with gold to loot?
Switzerland is pretty small, easily overrun.
In the cold war, there was a special train that the Soviets took to do banking with them.
>>1173673
because they are surrounded by mountainous terrain and a well trained alpine army with an incredibly sound defense strategy. Not much in terms of resources to gain from that country anyway, and they don't do sanctions either so they are pretty chill.
>>1173673
The people who are in charge also has gold in those banks. Having a safe neutral ground is just too convenient, specially if there's no drawback.
> Switzerland is pretty small, easily overrun.
Not worth it. They are basically country wide natural fortress without easy way to exploit it natural resources.
I wanna decide for myself are or how shit slavs really are... Where to learn everything about slavs /his/
Slavs are the master-race.
>>1173654
Slavs are great.
The fenno-scandinavian peoples, the balts, the slavs, caucasians and meds are all great.
What you really need to watch out for are fucking smelly useless bog niggers AKA "germans" as well as brits and irish. Disgusting!

Tell me about the Christianization of Scandiviana. Was it successful because of blood and might or did it win by The Word?
>>1173637
St. Olafr won because God willed it so, just like with Constantine. Our Kingdom was also its most prosperous and expansive at this time, after St. Olafr won by the hand of God.
Depends on the country, my county was "baptised" by blood lmao
There was a battle between christianized vikings and pagan ones
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Strangford_Lough
christian ones won which means Christ is da biggest 'n da strongest
What is the worst of the seven deadly sins?

I heard that The Brothers Grimm invented nationalism. Is it true? Does it means that nationalism literally just a fairy tale?

ANIME GET OUT
>>1173422
Mostly yes.
What he says is basically realpolitik ante litteram.
There are some details you might disagree with, but the overarching ideas are pretty much unassailable.
I have such a hardon for marble sculptures. They look so immortal.
>>1173422
His ideas are correct for his time, but can gradually be taken less seriously with the passing of each generation.
That is not to say they aren't still applicable, but that merely the violence of political circumstances is on the decline, in general, and that technological advancements allows us now to focus more on how things "ought to be" than we used to.
Who would win in a fight between a 16th century Swiss cook with french kitchen knife wearing german clothes and 1000 samurai?
>>1173288
>a skilled warrior with a better weapon vs a fucking gook
Guess who
>>1173339
My money is on the cook.
The cook obviously. The legendary French kitchen knife could cut trough steel.
French Empire
Mongols
Swedish Empire
German Reich
Why have so many failed to conquer all of Russia despite generally smacking the Russian army around outside of the nation?
Everyone undersestimates Russian leaderships lack of respect for the lives of their own people.
Russia 'beat' napoleon by burning down everything east of moscow and moscow itself. The peasants suffered greatly so the Czar could keep trading with enlgand. Its a fucking joke.

It's big, it's cold.
>>1173223
Commonwealth did it but the king didn't care because the boyars would only accept his son if he converted to Orthodox which he didn't want.
What the fuck does "Celtic" mean? I thought it meant "pre-English conquest Ireland", but now I keep learning that it was a shorthand for "European territory not conquered by Rome".
What a dumb thread.
>>1172809
Well fuck you too, jackass.
>>1172804
It means whatever you think it means.
Why are hungarians so proud of him if he was essentially romanian? I thought hungarians hated romanians?
is this thinly veiled Trianon thread
>>1172788
They hate gypsies specifically, but who doesn't?
>>1172886
I thought they considered all romanians as gypsies though?
What went right?
>>1172682
The british took over.
>>1172682
Elizabeth I never married and the lowlanders saw greater economic ties with England during the 16th century.
The lowlanders would then make a concerted effort to bring the highlanders to heel, unlike in Ireland where the inhabitants of less agriculturally productive regions were never overwhelmed by Ulster and Dublin.
>>1172784
>Elizabeth I
why is this relevant sorry?
So we all know about the Crusades and what the Arabs and Turks were doing during these conflicts with Christendom. But what exactly were the PERSIANS doing during the Crusades when they were going on and everyone was fighting?
Were they taking part in it?
they were getting btfo by the mongols
>>1172641
This and also they didnt like the other Muslims so didnt care
>>1172629
>>that quote
I consider the muslim takeover of persia to be an atrocity equal to the christian takeover of rome. Stupid abrahamites should take their stupid desert cults back to the desert they sprung from.
RIP based persian dude.
Serious talk. Why are there so many British muslims?
Shitty religion for shitty people
>/his/

>assuming it extends to some sort of historical source
faggot
I normally don't go on /his/, but I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I'm going to be writing a book that takes place during the times of the first crusades, with Pope Urban II and all that.
I want the book to depict the affairs of the different groups of people of the time. The main groups I'm interested in are the holy men in the Vatican, the crusaders, the Muslims, and the common people (peasants, traders, etc.)
Sad to say, aside from playing Assassin's Creed, I really don't know much about the way of life for these people...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

Not asking how to write a book. I'm asking what life was like during the time of the first crusades.
read Carole Hillenbrand "The Crusades: Islamic Perspectives" for some good primary sources.
and Amin Maalouf's "The Crusades through Arab eyes" is pretty fantastic.
Jonathan Riley-Smith "The Crusades" is a decent intro into this but focus more on his primary and secondary sources because it will help you do research in the future.
