Why were people during the ancient times so sexually liberal compared to the middle ages and beyond before the sexual revolution? You have people writing books about sex and almost viewed it as a way of life as well as normalized homosexual activities. Was it because of religion?
shameless bump

Those are some strong implications and conjecture there OP.
Alright guys, so I want to educate myself more. I've come to the realization that I know more about geometry and algebra than history and philosophy. I want to learn about the great men of history and the most influential philosophers of the world. I hate how our education system blows all of this stuff out the window, like why the fuck am I learning the god damn pythagorean theorem and unit circle? It's fucking retarded and honestly immoral. I just want a better understanding, to be more enlightened (fedora), and more importantly I want something to fucking stand...

Why were "Education ""Experts""" so dead set on destroying math and logic education in the 20th century? Do you think we will ever recover?

Fun fact: the 2nd and 3rd Reich were the same state
What did he mean by this?
Nietzsche tried to make all the thoughts of prayer his own, to contain with his body, his ego, his ferociously superhuman conception of himself all the "thoughts of prayer" of mankind immemorial. And thus, his body and mind revolted and at having to take on so much charge; and he went mad, and collapsed in Turin in front of a horse - and his head exploded; like Icarus, he played the gods and lost.
Continental bullshit.

Some people like to use large words to convey plainly obvious messages in order to seem smarter.
Ashkenazi Jews have a ton of Northern European ancestry, but traditionally they lived separate lives from Christians by force and by choice.
How did this mixing happen? Was intermarriage not always taboo, or was rape by gentiles just incredibly common?
Jewish emancipation
>>1206688
I could swear I read somewhere that Ashkenazi Jews have very European m-DNA, indicating Jewish men married local women, but as to how it happened, I have no idea.
>Ashkenazi Jews have a ton of Northern European ancestry
No they don't. They're a Middle Eastern / Caucasian / Mediterranean / Eastern European mix.
Since it turns out that Christopher Hitchens converted to Christianity before he succumbed to cancer, does that negate all his atheist stuff?

What's /his/'s consensus on this book?
Is it worth to read it, or is it just biased crap with cherry picked accounts?
>The Marriage of Likeness: Same-Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe (New York: Villard, 1994) argues that the adelphopoiia liturgy was evidence that the attitude of the Christian church towards homosexuality has changed over time, and that early Christians did on occasion accept same-sex relationships.[5]

I seriously doubt the author has any evidence for there being a sexual dimension to it.

did you read it?

>is it just biased crap with cherry picked accounts?
Probably. There's a reason it's only come out in the past decade or so. If same sex marriage truly was okay in Europe, historians would have already written about it.
why everybody says Isaac Newton believe the earth was create 4000 BC
i am looking for the references but nothing
newton didn´t say the earth was created 4000 BC
there is no reference for that
>>1205932
No one at the time knew the actual age of the earth and it came down to reilgious speculation and extrapolation. Creationists now are just retarded.

james ussher, he explains the biblical chronology in his book Annales Veteris Testamenti
but newton?
newton didn´t say that

I have a time machine and I'm inviting you to use it. Whatever you do won't affect the present but you can change the course of history in your dimension. Just one problem; its a one way trip, you can never go back to the present and meet your friends and family, you will die there. Would you take the chance?
If so, when and where? Why? Would you try and change history? How and why?

Can I become an expert in economics and/or public policy on my own without going to graduate school?
Sure, but no one is going to believe you.
>>1205589
how would i go about that? I'd like to conduct my own studies etc. Is that only possible in academia?
Yes, by listening closely to educated opinions of people on History & Humanities 4chan board.
Is there anyway that the Nazis could've won after they declared war on the USSR? It doesn't seem likely to me as the Soviet industrial might made it nearly impossible for the Germans to hold back the red tide as it came crashing back.
Yes, but inventing atomic bomb. Too bad they scared all of Jewish scientists before.
>>1205406
>Soviet industrial might
Strange way to spell "lend-lease from the USA". Hitler could have won if he'd avoided going to war with the Western allies, which he could have done by honoring the Treaty of Munich instead of revealing himself to be a shameless liar who can't be negotiated with.
>>1205406
If they were better prepared for winter, had more oil (maybe a victory in North Africa) and hadn't bothered with the Case blue, they could have done it. They also could have not massacred the locals and instead used them against the Soviets. Winning wasn't a total impossibility immediately in my opinion, but it's difficult to say what would have been enough to tip the scales.
Why should we read philosophy?
because it's fun and the cool kids are doing it.
In order to discover the Truth exposed by Plato and neoplatonists.
A philosophic system is an integrated view of existence. As a human being, you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. Your only choice is whether you define your philosophy by a conscious, rational, disciplined process of thought and scrupulously logical deliberation -- or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions, false generalizations, undefined contradictions, undigested slogans, unidentified wishes, doubts and fears, thrown together by chance, but integrated by your subconscious into a kind of mongrel philosophy and fused...

China was always a very powerful country until then.
How was the Qing dinasty overrun by imperialist interests?
Why did they allow it to happen?
>>1205075
China was also always a very isolated country. They influenced Vietnam, Korea, Japan, the Mongols, Tibetians, and a specific category of Turks. that's about it. Europeans often tried to influence countries fairly distant from their location for centuries before they ever started messing with China. They also lived in an area where there was so many states that they had mastered diplomacy with each other. China didn't really know what was coming.
>>1205085
>China didn't really know what was coming.
Why didn't they just rebel the fuck out when they realized what was happening then?
>>1205093
Probably because the vast majority of the Chinese had no loyalties to the Qing dynasty. Remember, these are outsiders who come in and then tell you every man must wear a stupid fucking pigtail or be executed. At any rate, the Chinese DID rebel but it was against the Qing. Go figure.
