is there a name for this? i believe that there are certain "idealisms" within human civilization that make it thrive. I support religion, the family unit, the concept of nation state on the basis that they are romanticized ideas that humans strive to achieve, even though i dont necessarily subscribe to them. I believe when you take these ideals away, you take away what it means to be human, and humanity simply becomes rats running around in a lab for the elitists

>even though i dont necessarily subscribe to them. I believe when you take these ideals away, you take away what it means to be human
So you don't consider yourself human?
>>1343866
i didn't use the right words there. I do believe in them but not based on spiritual/religious merit ie because the bible said so
>>1343876
But you believe others should? Why the double standard?
When will it fall? How will it be divided?

"thou shalt not kill"
>>1343738
Said moses and then slaughtered all who worshipped the golden lamb.
I guess it actually means: "Thou shall not kill those of your ingroup"
>>1343738
>MOSES IMMA GIB YOU AND YOUR PPL DIS LAND, BOI.
>IT'S GOT RESIDENTS? FYT THEM, FGT.
It's actually "you shall not murder", as far as I remember.
Also mulsims follow the ten commandments as well.
If you're allowed to have four wives in Islam, are you allowed to have sex with all of them at the same time?

Rousseau:
>Debates the nature of government, going back to a theoretical pre-civilized stage to seek a philosophical justification
>Proposes the radical idea that all men are inherrently equal and aristocracies of birth are an injustice against human nature
>Extensively writes about various kinds of freedom and what differentiates for example natural freedom from freedom granted by government
>Thinks up the fundamental principle for a democratic society:...

Tell me about this country, /his/
It seems like the only place left where communism hasn't either collapsed/been overthrown or reformed into oligarchic capitalism.
What the fuck has been going on here the last 20 years? What will the next 20 look like?

Born and raised in Miami. I'm from slightly different stock than the average South Floridian (usually, my peers will have at least one Cuban parent, especially if they're white or mixed native), but my dad thought it would be neato to vacation a week in Cuba during the 80's so I've got a unique perspective on it, even if it's somewhat skewed. I've also talked to a lot of native Cubans who are practically fresh off the boat. The times haven't changed that much, from what I've...

Most of this is the Cuba everyone already knows though, the shitty communist turtle state 90 miles from Florida.
But the Cold War's been over for 25 years. That image of Cuba now seems like an anachronism. What's Cuba doing today?
Sweet cars though.
>>1345784
Different South Floridian here with a Cuban ma and a buuncha Cuban cousins and family still in Cuba.
The same shit, but once in a while a guy has a concert in lil Havana and kids get piercings and shit now. But they're still wiping their ass with news paper in the country side and you can buy a woman for a day for like $5 us dollars. But the people are okay. Doesn't have the highest off crime rates compared to other Latino American countries. Also we speak the best Spanish meng.
But people...

I'd like to address two things here
First, the incorrect Protestant exegesis of Paul: when Paul talks of works, he's not talking about things like visiting prisoners or helping the poor, he's talking about works of the *law* (Galatians 2:16), such as circumcision (Romans 4:10).
Second, I'd like to address the misconception about Peter as the rock: yes, Peter was the rock (and Jerome adds, all Apostles were), but the "rock" is not an office, it's not Peter's chair which is a rock, but Peter himself. The "rock" has...

Constantine I just wanted to say that I hate you. I agree with everything you just said, but I absolutely despise you with every fiber of my being. I'd say you'll go to hell, but greco-slavics aren't humans, and don't have souls to go to hell.
I am fascinated by the Library of Alexandria. The amount of knowledge we had at that point (most of it forever lost).
Hypatia was the only woman in charge of the Library and the last. The video below tells what she did, accomplished and how she died in 415.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqzpHYfAdsE
have fun
It's not really worth being fascinated about. There were other, more impressive libraries, most of what was in the one at Alexandria was probably copied and sent to others, especially as it declined and decayed, and by the time of Hypatia the contents of the library were pretty much gone.
>crying over useless books of outdated medical "knowledge" and magic
Why is there such a disinterest in pre-colonial Sub-Saharan history?
Because there is little interesting things? Like if they are even here in the past, writing wasn't, so we doesn't know about we wuz kings in shit.

Because a lot of it is just spear chuckers in the jungle. The parts that are interesting are even discredited by descendants of people who once lived there.

Ia nihilism being a meme that's pushed to millennials to insubsequently promote communism?
>>1341778
I honestly have no idea how a nihilist could possibly conclude, in the midst of everything (and nothing) that nihilism promotes. That communism is anything but the single most pointless and stupid endeavor that one could pursue, and that to force another man to pursue a ideology with which he does not agree, is the only thing a nihilist may find to truly be distasteful.
Have a cute rebuild Asuka.
>>1341778
No but your premise is absolutely meme that's being pushed by butthurt gnostics.
>>1341790
nihilism promotes apathy toward your world and your reality. ergo, you must accept your reality and not work or aspire to anything greater because even if you do everything is still meaningless. challenges are obsolete.
in a capitalist economy, the meme is that you can work to build more wealth despite being born wealthy or poor. in a communist economy you simply accept what life offers you (even if it is little).
it's about killing the human spirit, really.
Why was he so wrong about everything?

Because he wasn't
This is pretty inexplicable meme, no one else on the internet except for /his/ seems to give a shit at all about this guy but you all can't stop talking about him every few hours.
When and why did American politicians on both sides abandon the working class and embrace neoliberal economic policies that destroyed manufacturing and primary industries, undermined American workers, and crippled unions?
Ronald Reagan.
>>1340872
It stated under Nixon, desu
>>1340805
It all started with the Cold War.
The business world warned of “the hazard facing industrialists” in “the newly realized political power of the masses,” and the need to wage and win “the everlasting battle for the minds of men” and “indoctrinate citizens with the capitalist story” until “they are able to play back the story with remarkable fidelity”; and so on, in an impressive flow, accompanied by even more impressive efforts, and became one of the central themes of the 20th century.
If...
