Any degree that teaches you to write well, think critically and analyse data is useful for a modern business environment.

but if you really like history and you think you are smart enough, why not take a stab at an academic career?
>>
Major in something else. You can always study history in your free time or even minor in it.

Unless you like writing, teaching, or you know somebody who knows somebody, getting a job in a history field is fairly difficult. Not impossible, but difficult.

Unless you're not looking to live a cushiony life. Then do whatever the fuck you enjoy.

They came after the high of WW1, had better military technique and the army itself was by no apparent mean sharing the sentiment with their commanders.

Also what would have a french quagmire meant for the german offensive in Europe?

Because most of them had huge nazi sympathies and were antisemitic, in addition of hating the French government.

Their only plan was to rely on the maginot line and a defensive strategy. They actually were aware that a defeat was possible considering the newgained might of the Wehrmacht. Thought not even the most pessimistic would have guessed that the maginot line would have been overrunned in a few days.

They had no plan B. So you could imagine the panic and despair after the lines got broken.

Add to this how many generals and commanders got killed in airraids.

They obviously didn't, what are you even talking about.

How was he as an emperor?

How could he have been better?

Many consider his reign to be among the best the Roman Empire ever had, right up there with the Augustus. I'd say the biggest fault you can pin on him is the succession, because it was clear from early on that Commodus was a fucking idiot.
>>
>>381746
Commodus was not as heinous as literally every emperor between Septimius and Constantine tho. He was also the first one "born in purple" right?
>>
The other 5 Good Emperors were as good as he was. The Commodus problem was that he was the only one of the 5 Good Emperors that had a male son reaching adulthood. The other ones were gay and had to adopt their successors, since the few times they bothered to have sex with their wives, daughters were born.

Winning the War of 1812 is high on my list. Also, the Louisiana Purchase. You could go modern and say the Berlin Air Lift (within the larger sense of having a commitment to protect our allies against the Soviet Union).

Good luck with whatever five paragraph essay you pick for your assignment kid. Most of us could write in less than 15 minutes.

Constantine’s coins advertised Mars and later in his early 40's when converted to Christianity his new coins advertised Sol Invictus.

Are these the actions and evidence of a pious Emperor who was truly a convert to the faith of Christianity? Or the actions of a very smart and cunning individual who seized power at every opportunity, including placating the ever growing hoards of the impoverished followers of the slave religion Christianity into allies and subjects who could now be manipulated

Religion was seldom so cut and dry at that time. Until that point, the vast, vast majority of religions had advocated for worshiping more than one god. I have little doubt that Constantine revered Christ and the Abrahamic God, but he likely retained his faith in the Roman gods as well.

Why did Russia just give up after they were beaten to the moon? Why didn't they trying to surpass the US somehow?
24 replies and 9 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>380516
Why did we stop sending men to the moon? Why haven't we put men on Mars? Money doesn't grow on trees. The Soviets were having a hard enough time keeping up so throwing away more money wasn't very appealing. Also it seems their lunar program seemed to be rife with problems.
>>
>>380516
They didn't. Actually, they launched a robot to try to beat Apollo 11 to the moon and steal our thunder. It crashed.

But they kept on with other space projects. Our SpaceLab program was mostly a disaster. Their Mir program was largely successful.

And, hell, right now today we can't even get men into orbit without hitching a ride on their rockets. Seems like it's we who gave up, not the Russians.

>Why were Muslims more secular than Christians during the Islamic Golden Age
Secular for the time period. By today's standards they were just as zealous as ever.

Which is the main point, Christianity managed to become secularized over the centuries while Islam either stagnated or got even more conservative.

>Muslims more secular than Christians
wut. Islam has no formal differentiation between religious authority and secular authority. At the very least, Europe always had that.

>What led Christians to lose touch with knowledge?
In the West, it was the decline of social institutions that led to a decline in certain kinds of professionals. Engineers, for example. Turns out you need to know about Roman infrastructure to maintain Roman infrastructure. The...

ITT: The Second Indochina War

The War in Vietnam ended the way wars would be fought in the modern world, it seemed to strip the "innocence" of the US and manage to suck countries like South Korea, Australia/New Zealand and the Phillipines.

Let's discuss the pivotal event in History, share stories and any pictures from the conflict

possibly the worst modern war to be a veteran of

>most average in-combat fighting hours per infantryman of any war in the past century
>hot, humid jungle, always raining, bugs and animals everywhere getting in your shit, disease
>booby traps and a silent, hidden enemy that didn't want to fight in the open often

Basically the perfect recipe for a special brand of PTSD
