Comiket 90 is coming up in about a month

Not going this time around, I'm afraid. Looking to go to c91 depending on dates.
Went to c89, had an absolute blast. Would definitely recommend.
I barely speak any Japanese, and there's a lot of people there who don't speak any. Language barrier got a bit awkward at times, like when I was trying to see if they had two of an item and they thought I was trying to barter... But other than that it was fine. Comiket is all about preparation - it's absolutely crazy in there, especially Day 3. If you have a lot of artists you want to get, don't expect to get them all because they'll probably be sold out. I was waiting in like for Udon-Ya for three hours... That was after taking the 2nd train available at about 5 am to us from Shinjuku because the first was just too full to get all of us on there...
Comiket has a postal service set up where you can actually just send things home each day. Lines as usual, are really long for that as well of course. Getting things back into your country obviously depends on your country's laws as well as how tight the customs are.

Go with a plan. See if you can get the handbook and map, it'll make life easier for you. Know where the artists you want to go to are and on what day, keep in mind line times etc if you're going on your own so you can plan out accordingly. If you can't get the handbook, at least know the layout of comiket and get your artist's tables from their twitter and know where you're going. A couple of tables will have people who can speak a bit of english, but the prices are pretty clearly marked. Would recommend asking if it's okay to take a look at something before picking it up, but you can always just be rude and not bother I guess.

I'm going to be there. It's going to be my first comiket and I don't really know what I'll be doing.
I barely speak any japanese, but have been studying for a couple months now and I can formulate broken but basic sentences.
To be honest I haven't really kept track of the groups I like. I'll have to go back through my collection.
Are artists typically ok with autographing things?
Does Raita typically go to comiket?

If you're going to comiket you should read/watch Genshiken. They go to comiket early on in the story.

It is literally an order of magnitude bigger than any other convention that I know of except maybe AX. Attendance is usually around 600,000 people.
As for the day 2 being oriented towards females. Yeah that's kinda true, there is alot of fujoshit. But its also the day when most of the game related stuff is out. The only real answer is to look up the catalog.
Besides, there is more to comiket than just buying a shitload of porn, I usually spend a good amount of time just hanging out at the cosplay area.

Yeah, I meant two hours just for Udon-Ya's table. At c89, it was actually Day 1 mostly for females, Day 2 for guys stuff, and day 3 is when all your artists usually come in. It's pretty rare to have a table on more than one day, so even though I've said this already I can't stress it enough, prepare and plan ahead. I missed out on Michiking's table cause I thought he was there for day 3 rather than day 2, for example.
A quick look at google translate for the web catalogue looks like day 1 will be your girls day again - Tiger and Bunny, Hetalia, Prince of Tennis are set for that day. Looks like your mecha stuff again too, as well as jump. Day 2 looks like Tokken Ranbu for the ladies, as well as stuff from online games, rpgs, and other games, so VC will be here too. Kancolle and touhou as well. And well, day 3 is day 3, the mad day when all the artists come in like T2, Udon Ya, Raita, nisemidi, etc. It's absolutely crazy, you'll be literally stuck in traffic with the workers directing it around.
And um, in terms of autographs I have no idea, I'd guess probably not though...

Also went to c89 and this was exactly how the days were broken up.
I'm skipping c90, but hoping to make it to c91.
I managed to get by with very limited Japanese. The phrases I used most frequently (and in order) were:
"This/that one please"
"How much is this/that?" (if it wasn't clearly marked)
"I want to buy this/that"
"Thank you"
As for customs, I didn't have any issues, but I've heard that stacks on stacks of printed media may be suspected to be untaxed import commercial goods.
A few things I wish I knew before my first comiket:
When people say the foot traffic at comiket is crazy, that's actually an understatement. I think it would be more accurately described as DANGEROUS.
Go as early as you can. The line to enter the hall zigzagged all throughout the area for several blocks. The sooner you can figure out where to line up, the better.
I do not recommend bringing along a roller bag or a backpack to Day 3. Roller bags are a huge tripping hazard and your chance of causing accidents (ie: knocking someone's cellphone out of their hands) with your backpack is pretty high.
Instead, I recommend bringing a decent sized messenger/courier bag that you can hold close to your body to protect your loot. Fanny packs are perfect for holding your cellphone and cash.
The more popular artists will be stationed around the perimeter of the hall so that the lines for them can snake outside if necessary. Therefore, line up for your FAVORITE+POPULAR artists first, since they may run out of their popular/new stuff before the end of the day. I had also tried to purchase multiple copies of Furohile at the Udon-ya booth, but they had a 1 per customer limit which might apply at other popular artist booths as well.
Bring water.
