I'm using the cover for color reference.
The hair is the hardest shit
>>
A lot of problems.
Purely from observation:
Bad palette choice, ie: guy's skin, her hair, blush.
No background fills.
Randomly removing artist details.
Randomly adding your own details.
Bad blends, ie: blush, shading, forehead in top right panel.
And this is a guess, bad layer management.

Basically it's all a bit of a mess. Above all though, modifying the source material to your own taste is almost always a no-no. IMO people find interest in the source material, not your twist on it.
>>
>>4256447
No. You fail. The rules say when you post an image you should also post the source when you know it. Asking the source when the OP clearly knows the it is completely different from asking about a random image.
>>
>>4256487

>Bad palette choice
Thinks it's wrong colors right after I post the source...
There's a thing called eyedropper tool, it's the exact same color as the original lol

>No background fills
One thing at a time, backgrounds are usually added last

>Bad blends, ie: blush, shading, forehead in top right panel
Again, whole thing is not even 10% done yet... It's going to be replaced eventually

I find interest in my own twist on it, and I place that above yours. I'm doing this for my own enjoyment, if you like the original better, well, it's your personal preference and I can't criticize you on that.

Overall I appreciate your criticism, but please, be constructive and stop trying to sound smart, you just making a fool out of yourself.

Not OP but could i get some opinions on my coloring if that's cool?
>>
>>4256517
Find a better source material first, this one is mehh, but that's just my opinion.

Other than that the coloring is pretty clean, just the shadow on the breasts needs to be more uniformed.

Also when doing shadows first determine or set the light source, that way you will know where there should be shadings.
For example, if the light source is above her head near ground level, there will be shadow on her elbows (You colored one of the elbow green btw) and the shadow under the breasts projected on her stomach will be a lot more

Overall not bad I rate it 5/7 ;P
>>
>>4256538
The shading was already like that before i colored it :/
>>
>>4256539
There are a lot of different level of shades, the original artist usually do not portray the difference when it's just black and white manga
>>
>>4256541
Also who says you can't improve upon the original? The original artist prob made a mistake, and if you spot it you can fix it, no? Don't follow them, lead new ways.
>>
Has anyone ever managed to colour the entire Mega Milk one? I forget its official name, nor do I care.
>>
>>4256512
Uh. Right, okay. Don't ask for advice if you're going to get pissy about it.
There's a right way and wrong way to do this, just as there are various correct styles and incorrect styles. To say that you are more favoured towards your own out of preference is absolutely valid, but it doesn't suit the artist's intended style, which is what fans of the work are expecting. To alter that is to disregard the artist's intentions and therefore disregard the opinions of his fans. Also, you've stated that this is out of personal enjoyment. This, along with an indifference towards outside opinions, why are you even asking for our thoughts?
Seems to me like you're looking for praise and not much else.
I find my points to be reasonable concerns, if you're not in agreement that's absolutely fine. No need to get upset over it.
>>
>>4256565
Lol? There are advice which are helpful, like how the red was too strong for the first panel, which I fixed. But you complaining about how the color was a bad choice without any reasons, right after the source was posted, was some next level shenanigans. Also when you speculated bad layer management, when I didn't use any yet as that's mostly for backgrounds, was pretty hilarious.
If Im a fan of the manga Attack On Titan, but when it was made into the anime, does that mean I would hate it because huge alterations are made? Then why should it be any different for smaller alterations during coloring when it does not affect the overall appeal of the orginal author's work? Does the author always have a set of rules of which alterations will be made, and once broken will upset all his fans? Can his fans even tell?
Again, disregarding the strawman fallacy, I specifically said I appreciate your criticism, like all others, will be taken into consideration. I'm not looking for only praises, I said constructive criticism will be more helpful, instead of empty speculations and pointless intolerance.

I have Photoshop CS6, can you give me a step by step on how you did this
>>
>>4256613
Not too sure there, I primarily use Sai.
If I convert the document it might end up getting a bit screwed up, but it should communicate the process anyway.
Why use Sai? Layering and simplicity. You can group layers and use them as masks or clip something to a group. Photoshop never gained that feature for some reason.

Basic process:
Open lineart as new canvas.
Layer -> Luminance to Transparency (Treats white pixels as alpha channel).
If you can't do this (ie: Photoshop), set the lineart blend mode to multiply. That does the job well enough, but you can't then clip to that layer without blending issues.
Add in dark background.
Lay down flat fills for skin, hair, clothing, speech etc.
Clip shading to said layers.
Add highlights, for more vibrant highlights or effects, use layers above the lineart.

I would like to go into real depth about the process, but I find myself failing to be constructive, almost as if I were trying to sound smart but just making a fool out of myself.

Document here (remember, it's converted so might be unusual):

Complains about colors, then makes a "much better" version with red sweat, black ears, and red hands, Oh and replaced one word. That completely just disproved all my points. Well done!
>>
>>4256622
Channel that passion into reinforcing your point instead of worrying about my example.
It wasn't created out of spite so much as curiosity. I wanted to see how my own advice looked, don't take it as a challenge.
Given that I even provided the document that could even be used to save you time.
And "ego" is the problem, I think. I've long since abandoned trying to flash mines around.
Out of interest, are you multilingual?
>>
>>4256610
Wow. I wish could colour like this too. Do you have any tips or know any guides for newbies? Never used Sai before but I heard it's easy to use.
>>
>>4256630
Why would I need to further reinforce my points when you just avoid it when you can't refute it?
Your first post, all of the "advices", and now the redundant references, are sure not flashing of egos. How far did you abandoned it?
And yes English is not my first language, would that make my arguments weaker?
>>
>>4256633
I'm a terrible teacher, that's why I provided the document as a means to perhaps explain things.
If I could provide some tips...
I'd suggest getting rid of the basic tools that Sai provides. You really only need a circular pen, eraser and blur/blend to start off. Don't waste your time hoarding over brush settings.
Familiarise yourself with the shortcuts. You can zoom, adjust brush size, rotate the canvas, select, flip the canvas, save, cut, etc. Pretty much anything can be bound to a key, and learning them will increase your productivity massively once you stop rooting around for the tool's button.
Use the palette/swatches. If you're colouring something that has multiple pages or characters it can become difficult to keep track of what colours are used where. By keeping a palette/swatch set you can easily access them instead of switching off layers and using the eyedropper.
Save often. OFTEN.
Use multiple layers to avoid destructive editing. That way if you decide to throw something out you can just delete the layer.
If you're looking for more practical or personal pointers, post something that you've worked on and I'll try and be critical about it.

>>4256643
I'm impressed by your English, that's all. I have a respect for people who can speak multiple languages, and I picked up that I was perhaps having trouble getting my points across. I wasn't sure why, so I pinned it on the fact that there might be a language barrier.
I can't be bothered arguing man, here, have a trophy. You win. Congrats.
>>
>>4256648
>My points are weak
>How do I save face?
>Oh that guy is multilingual who understands english perfectly fine
>Therefore it is because of the language barrier that he can't understand my points, because they are in english, flawless logic!
>Whole ego battle went downhill, better save face by pretending to be the bigger man
>"Here have a trophy."

When did this became a competition btw? Are you the one trying to win a trophy at the beginning?
>>
>>4256610
The irony of this is hilarious.

>>4256181
These look like and probably are just filtered through some color layer as opposed to actually being drawn over. It's low quality and it shows through the shadows and blush. It would look much more natural if you just get outlines from the base work and color from that.
>>
So is OP still working on this or has he given up

Are there good tutorials on how to color this stuff with PS?

In photoshop? Few different ways to color something like this that already has shading and lighting.

Easiest would just be throwing the gray layer into overlay or some other layer style, and put it on top of a color layer.

Or you can do the flats, place them into a Color style layer, and put them over the grayscale/original linework.

Theres also Gradient Maps but those can be a bitch and I rarely need to use them unless the whole picture is pretty much straightgray/darkgray.

For something like this, or anything that has a decent amount of white space, I recommend doing the following.

>Seperate the linework from the background by going to Channels, which is the tab next to Layers in CS6

>Ctrl+click any of the channels, doesnt matter which.

>This selects all the white area and some of the lighter tones of gray, etc.

>Hit delete.

>This step is important. Be SURE to use Ctrl+U and reduce the darkness of the layer to all the way down. Otherwise youll end up with pic related.

>After this (which takes about 10 seconds to do once you know how) you'll have a decent linework to start with, just lay out the flats underneath, get a shading and lighting layer, and boom you'll have a great start.

I'd suggest trying the method I laid out >>4257565 here. But here what a few others look like in a shitty diagram that doesnt really do them justice. I'll use overlay/color methods on occasion, just need to expirement to find out what methods you like.

Layers and the pen tool are your best friends.

That depends on what you consider an artist, I guess. I never have really considered myself one, I just liked coloring images of tits/other things on my computer. Just kept practicing and learning and eventually I got to be halfway decent I guess.

I just do it for fun. Experiment, try new things, maybe look up how to make certain things happen if you care enough, and you'll improve.

Hey OP here, my suggestions would be screw all the layers and techniques and just use the basic brush tool to start coloring, Also don't be afraid to experiment.
When I started I fucked up the hair, but later on I learned how to do it in a better way.
Zoom in for fine details and use large brush size for filling. It's surprisingly easy to get into.
