If you're like me, you frequent /h/ often enough to see obnoxious debates and issues about source.
The board rules are quite clear, including the rules for supply the source of your own posted images.
In my own (perhaps misguided, perhaps not) efforts to alleviate this problem, I would like to put forward a guide, hopefully comprehensive but more than likely not, on finding source, not just for found images, but for your own postings on /h/ and beyond.
There are several different image search engines available to the common searcher.
>Google Image Search. This is a very useful tool for finding images that are part of a CG set, or from tumblr, hentaifoundry, or any number of similar sites. However, the image search algorithm does not work the same way for everyone - those of us who spend more time browsing the type of images they search will be more likely to find better, more accurate results. If you use Google and do not find anything, that does not mean you cannot find source.
>Internet Query Database (IQDB). This engine searches a specific set of sites - danbooru, gelbooru, sankaku, konachan, and a few others. It's less history-intensive than Google, but also doesn't search as comprehensively. If IQDB cannot find your image, it suggests a few alternatives, including...
>SauceNAO. This is similar to IQDB, but searches h-manga, h-magazines, and h-anime as well as certain boorus and images sites. IN MY EXPERIENCE*****, this is the most useful tool for finding stray pages of manga or covers. It's also solid for finding images from CG sets.
>TinEye. TinEye is typically not very useful when looking for source on /h/ images, but it comes as an option on IQDB and can me done at the same time as SauceNao and Google Images from IQDB to cover extra bases. If you're serious about finding source for an image, give TinEye a cursory check.

In addition to images search engines, THERE ARE OTHER SITES you can use to aid you in your search.

Whether or not you use g-e.hentai, exhentai, whatever. E-hentai sites have a file search function that is fairly reliable. The option to search by file is just below the search bar. If the image is from a CG set, an h-manga, or a pixiv/nijie artist, there is a decent chance e-hentai will be able to find the gallery for you.

this is less of a search engine than the ability to recognize a file name. assuming the account has not be deleted, pixiv images share a specific naming convention for file types. This is typically eight numbers long, expressed as XXXYYYY_p0, or XXXYYYY_p0_master, or XXXYYYY_p1_big, or something along those lines. The lower the number, the older the pixiv posting and the more likely the account may have been deleted. In any case, if you see an image that matches this convention, you can try to paste it directly into the pixiv page, like this:

There may be other sites that are helpful, and if anyone would like to add their own contribution, please feel free.
If none of these give you even a hint of source, you will have to get creative. Searching specific tags, learning to recognize the difference between a CG set vs a game CG vs a pixiv image and so on. These are all helpful.

I think that if you've tried all the different avenues I've listed, you're probably trying to identify something that is standalone (the artist has deleted online accounts or similar), or something that's been heavily cropped, modified, etc.
I'm not sure whether it then becomes polite practice to ask for source - I've personally never had a problem finding source that wasn't one of the above - at least that I can recall.
So the best answer I have is I don't know. Because frankly, even if there are plenty of people who will genuinely do all the searching and then ask, there are also plenty of people who will just say they have, and it doesn't really change anything.

Unfortunately there aren't any good tools to reverse search a specific .webm that I know of. In the few cases I've done so, I usually combine and/or recombine search terms on google, hentai video sites, etc, depending on what the webm looks like. It's not exactly reliable but it's better than nothing, at least in my experience.
