I'm currently a college student that wants to get into the world of translating.
Japanese is my first language, and I studied adobe suite all throughout high school.
I'll be offering free translations for the time being, just so I get some experience under my belt.

I would love to see a translation of any of the untranslated chapters in Takatsu's Mamma Mia! tank. Only chapters 1, 3, 5 and 8 have translations, the rest was never touched.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to give a quick update on the current situation with the translations.
I didn't expect to receive so many requests (I'm talking about 40 currently).
I'm not sure what is the best way to approach this currently. I was thinking that I would do the shorter stuff first so I could get some content out there, but then again I feel like I should translate the requests by a first come first serve basis. From my estimates, I can probably do a 15 page doujinshi in a full 8 hour work day; shorter works I can pump out in a couple of hours.
I've already started on three projects, but as it turns out it takes a lot longer to translate than I previously thought.
I could just do a direct translation and return it on a raw text file as the final product, but it feels like a shitty thing to do.
I'd rather take the time to translate, localize, white balance, format, and edit the manga to make it look somewhere close to a finished product.
I don't know, what do you guys want? Do you want a raw translation, or rather wait a week or so for a more 'complete' product? Please let me know so that I can work on as many projects as I can. Finding the time to translate and do school work has been a difficult one : - /

With that amount of request, I'd say distribute the scripts so more stuff gets done. Other people can pick up the editing stuff but not a lot can or are willing to translate for free.
Since you mentioned you want to deliver a complete edited manga, maybe you can pick stuff that you like to work on and leave the other stuff that doesn't suit your fancy (in terms of content, raw, length or other stuff that somehow doesn't get you excited) to others.
I'm more for getting a lot of stuff done so more people are pleased. But at the end of the day, it's your time and pace. I think people won't mind waiting if you prefer to do all those stuff so you can improve your skills.

I don't know if I speak for everyone, or even anyone else, but fully translating, localizing, and doing everything to make it look real before emailing it back to the person who requested it sounds like a colossal misuse of effort, considering most people would probably want it published so more than two people get to read it.
Given how translators are the most in deficit, just transcribing raw text and letting other people go through the actual PSD work is going to be far better use of resources. I don't know how long it's supposed to take to translate something like this, but 8 hours for 15 pages because there's nobody else in the process doesn't sound like a good deal for you or anyone else.

All the names from the series are based off of Japanese battle ships, so if you're not a WWI or WWII history buff, even Japanese people will have a difficult time knowing what the name are.
But hey, I got to learn a little bit of history in the process so it wasn't all bad. But now when I hear those names, all I can think about is this doujin :(

Actually, could you help me out with particles? It's this week's lesson in the Japanese class I'm taking and I just can't come to understand when to use them properly or what they even mean.
My knowledge goes as far as this:
ăŻ- wa (typed ha), comes after the topic
ă- o (typed wo), comes after direct object (no idea what an indirect object would be, does it mean if the subject were an object?)
ă« - comes after time/location
ă - comes at end of a sentence if question (this one makes the most sense, it's a substitute for ?)
ăź - comes after owner (also kind of makes sense, substitute for 's or s', apparently there are exceptions)
ă - comes after subject especially before ćšăăŸă, ăăŸă, and ăăă§ă (I'm pretty lost on this one, probably more so than the rest)
ăă - comes after thing/place to mean from (I think I get this one, but in a sentence like ăăăăăąăĄăȘă«äșșă§ă you don't use it, unless that isn't a real sentence and was just used by my professor to ease us in)
ăš - comes after a noun to mean and; comes after person to mean with
For me it's not so much that I pass this class as much as it is I end up with a full understanding of everything I was supposed to learn. The particle 㯠for instance, what does it mean? In just a simple sentence like ăăăăăăăČă«ă§ă, watashi means I (should be a gender neutral form of I, or something like that), and desu means am (at least in this case, from what I understand, and we didn't even learn about this in class yet, desu is a general term stating an absolute fact, like if I were to say I AM a fucking retard, desu would be am), but what does wa mean? Is it anything or is it just there to add to the sentence or something? I'm not used to there being nothing in a sentence or no reason for it, like if I were to say over-encumbered: there's no reason for over because (one definition of) encumbered is burdened by, so over burdened by is just redundant. Is wa redundant? Should I try to stop looking at this from an English perspective?

Learning your particles makes up about 40 percent of learning Japanese, so once you master it you're golden so don't give up! People say that Japanese is one of the hardest languages to learn but in truth the reason people make it look so hard is you have to learn so many words, and Kanji on top of that. To me however, it just makes learning Japanese take longer, not necessarily harder. Japanese grammar is concise too, so once you learn all the rules , theres no having to learn exceptions like what you have to do with English.
I actually tutored a friend Japanese and I found that the best way to explain particles to him was to compare it to "English" particles. I found that people have the most trouble understanding and discerning ăand 㯠as they are somewhat similar in nature.
㯠can be best described as the "existence" particle, as in it expresses the existence of the topic in the sentence, usually a person or object. So when you say "I am miguel" in Japanese, you would say "ç§ăŻăżăŁăăă§ăăâIf we break it down by parts we find that we can directly translate it word for word. ç§ is the gender nuetral term for "I". The particle 㯠can be best compared to the English word "is". ă§ălike you said is simply what is put at the end of a setence to state a fact.
I can use another example: ç§ăźè»ăŻè”€ăă§ă. (My car is red)
We can break this setence down again:
ç§- Gender nuetral "I"
ăź- A particle that denotes "posession", best compared to the english "'s" that is put at the end of a persons name or other entity.
è»- Kanji for car
ăŻ- the "existence" particle. Again, it is best compared to the English word "is".
蔀ă- Kanji for red.
ă§ă- Desu, put at the end of a setence to state a fact.
When we combine the direct translation we get a sentence that looks like this:
"I's car is red."
"I's" is not an actual word, so we use the self posessive term instead: my. So the sentence becomes:
My car is red.

fellow moonrune learner here. I'm bit of a scrub still, but with translators and dictionaries, I can do a pretty good job. I've been thinking of translating some H-manga too, since it doesn't really have difficult dialogues, other than MY HIPS ARE MOVING ON THEIR OWN, and it would provide some great experience, or even as a reference.. What would you say is the required level in JLPT terms to translate smut? I'm on my way for N3. It's not that hard uploading there. Just make an account on g.e-hentai, and then click on the "My Galleries" button on the top of the site. Then "create a new gallery" where you put a name and short description. After that, add all files as JPGs / PNGs or as Zip files and you're done. You're losing out on panda bucks if you let others upload them.
