I may not be the best person to be giving advice but what I've come to realize about drawing is that there are certain methods people take when doing specific kind of styles.
For cellshading/gradients "specifically" people tend to make their line arts very crisp and smooth. Kinda like this.

Making a detailed line-art allows you to continue on with cellshading "veryyy" easily.
For the actual shading and gradients, people tend to separate the shading layer and the gradient layer. What often happens is the gradients would be used to help solidify where the light would be coming from and making the colors look "interesting"

The subtle addition of warmth colors through gradient makes it look more interesting and vibrant rather than just pale and a darker shade of pale. And as you can see the line-art is pretty fine too
So for starters i guess just start making more crisp smooth lines? and for shading people choose either saturated or somewhat unsaturated colors so you kinda have to fiddle with that and learn. Try using a good range of hue/tint colors Example ( skin) colors ( pale, darker reddish pale, then slightly more reddish. as for hair example : brown, darker brown, maybe some slight orange for the vibrancy.

And if you ever feel like you're in a great plateau, one thing i do (sometimes) is just try to imitate one of my favorite artists and try to make a drawing based on their style, anatomy, and shading. what eventually happens is that you'll get some sort of hybrid of his and your own and you can be on your way making great art.

I'd like to add to what Jay has already mentioned about your work if you don't mind.
You haven't hit a plateau of any kind, anon. You still need an incredible amount of practice time working on your fundamentals.
Breasts don't suspend themselves in the air like that when a woman is having sex in that particular position in picture one. There's no evidence or suggestion of a right hand anywhere on her body to suggest that she's leaning back (You should at least see a hand or arm peek out down towards the bottom of her right thigh) , and your anatomy could use a lot more practice work.
It won't help you much to continue on with more complex ideas like digital shading until you go back and learn how to draw bodies correctly.
I imagine that's your second picture posted too; see how the right arm and the left arm differ greatly? Her left arm gives no indication of any upper structure at all, her bicep is just too small. Again, look at her right breast, see how awkwardly suspended it is in the air?
Male anatomy needs work as well here, see how in the second picture the male's body seems to widen out like a flying squirrel?
Mind you, you're probably starting to draw and I don't want to discourage you from continuing. Far from it. I started out just like you years ago, and still to this day, I have problems drawing anatomy. That Revy Black Lagoon request I delivered earlier in the thread was a BITCH to draw. I kid you not, I must have redrawn that pose at least 7 times before settling on the final pose like I did, and there are still mistakes on it.
I know this is not the thread to post something like this, but it does bear mentioning here because other artists post their work here, and could greatly benefit from practicing fundamental work.
You haven't hit a plateau, you're just barely starting out on your very first one. Practice, practice, practice and ALWAYS use reference photos! Good luck!
