Pictures get deleted all the time, sites die, and then you have to hunt for all those pic you liked.
HD space is so cheap now, or you can even fit your entire picture collection on a flash drive.

semi related but 4chan is a really really good source for old images that can't easily be found anywhere else. /tg/ especially has lots of of monstergirl images that give no results when you image search them. I'll be lurking their archives one day when I get around to it.

For me, it's a handpicked collection. So, it's not immensely large because of my select preference. Since every picture is good I tend to fall back on it whenever I just cant find any good to fap to.
I like to save a large collection of pictures to create slideshows.
I do it because it's not uncommon for artists (especially on Pixiv) To suddenly delete all their shit.

Sharing them on here, and being able to sort them for easy access to what you're looking for. And even if you're a lazy shit like me who doesn't organize them very well, you've still got stuff that was up to your standards for what's saveworthy all gathered in one place.

Thats a good question I never thought much about before. I suppose its more convenient than navigating to a website if you wanna fap to the same pic/doujin/whatever. I have a fap folder that is loosely organized as well.

yes anon. I follow at least 15 artists on pixiv and what scares me is their art becoming unattainable. some artists make me angry by deleting their accounts or when I find out they have their art on multiple sites like twitter, nijie, deviantart, tumblr with at least one account deactivated.
