Hey all,
This is a bit of a different sort of request, as I actually do plan to finish color and shading this myself. Just looking to bounce ideas.
I have never had to draw bubbles and water though. Does anyone have some good strategies for this? Below is an ink and base laid out, but I need to get the tub filled, basically. I had a nice illusion when I took a soft eraser to the lines in my sketching phase so I may do that here, but unsure how that will look when color comes in. Attached is a bubble sketch overlay, I may start by trying to line the sketch part with white lines, as I have heard some people start by lining with an off- white.
Any more experienced digital artists have thoughts or advice on water/bubbles?
Apologies if it isn't /h/ enough. Debated where I would put this since nipples may come in, but I did see some partial nudity anyway so seems legit.

Bubbles being transparent, really limits what you can do with them. The white lining/ dots is probably the standard for most fluids, heres a quick and sloppy run through of part of your image with white lines/dots/overlay. I added a little of everything so you can look it over. But be prepared to be underwhelmed, ain't much skill comin' out of me.

Yeah an approach like this is probably appropriate - if anyone gets further tips let me know. My approach for shading tends to just be simple multiply layer cel-shading right now, with some color dodge layers for shimmering glows and such.

Yea it would take some time and definitely be a reimagination of it, but I might be able to do it. I'm a little new to this, but I feel like I've gotten used to the digital transition enough in my Surface Book to do it.

Here is some of what I started. I may need a bit more glare once it is all filled in, and I'm going for a foamier looking bubble that this due to the fact I usually cel shade and have a more saturated color scheme, but getting there.
Also darkened her up as I usually start darker and end up much lighter after glow and color correction.

A bit different coloring this as opposed to when I actually line stuff. My style has a bit darker of lines and are more inks than pencils. I'm not sure it meshed well, but it seems alright. I had to soft erase some things I felt were too strong when color was introduced, such as the nipples.

Other color guy here, I think it looks good, the colors are very clean. My only comments on it would be to make the nipples a little pinker (brighter? I dunno, they seem a little dull to me) and that you could probably go a little more crazy with shading if you wanted to.

Depends what it is, hah. I use requests more as an artists block solve to give me something to do and practice. If I like the character and situation, I'd do something from scratch.
You might wonder why I'm not in the draw thread, well, I ended up here for my first Shantae request-ish and it sort of started from there.

yeaaah that sort of was part of the challenge, with it being far from my lining style, I felt like lowering the saturation some. Generally, I start darker and more saturated, shade, then brighten it up some. This one I started a bit less saturated than I usually do for a softer look to match the lines, but it seems I got too dull there. Good practice if I wanted to switch up my art style sometime.

Alright, a trick to make it easier on you is to make sure to use a new layer for each portion of the image you color. Along with that, you can change the layers to "Multiply" which will help preserve detail and you can color over the line which blends them with the image better. You can use the Burn and Dodge tools to easily shade/highlight areas as well.

I've got paint.net since it's free and tried my hand at a picture, but it's still pretty terrible. But, I'm relatively satisfied with my ability to use the fill tool.

Get photoshop and go to town.
I'm the OP/primary request filler, generally I load the image and its reference. I use the eyedropper tool (Short cut is holding alt while on brush/paintbucket, or hitting I) to take colors from the ref, create a new layer and set it to "Multiply" which will add the color to the image instead of over it. (Some adjustments to get accurate color may be necessary depending on the image). After filling everything with its appropriate color, you shade the ever loving piss out of it. Hit it with the "Burn" tool to create shadows where they would be cast. Loose clothing, the undersides of bodies, etc. Highlights are essentially the opposite. Using the "Dodge" tool you can apply a lighter (Up to white) color to the "tops" of the body, imagine a spotlight above the image (sometimes where it would be changes, but generally above works) You want to hit the areas the light directly hits with highlights.
A rough tutorial, but really, experience is the best way to learn. I started learning in these threads a week and some change ago, I'm still not great but I've definitely improved. Put in the work in these threads and you will get better. Good luck new color anons.
